Thank you, PlumFest! 🎶💚

We are grateful to receive a $1,250 donation from , funded through proceeds from their 2025 festival. This generous support helps Nourishing the North Shore expand access to fresh, local food for neighbors across our region.

So far this year, we’ve distributed more than 25,000 pounds or 100,000 servings of fruits and vegetables to local food pantries, meal programs, and community partners. Beginning this month, we’ll launch one of our free VEGOUT Farmers Markets serving older adults and families throughout the Greater Newburyport area.

Thank you to the PlumFest team, volunteers, musicians, hosts, and attendees for investing in a healthier, more nourished community for all. 🌱

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week! 💚

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who give their time, energy, and heart to help nourish our community.

From seeding thousands of seedlings in the greenhouse, to packing and distributing fresh produce, to supporting our Free VEGOUT Markets and home deliveries, our volunteers make this work possible.

As food insecurity continues to rise, their support is more important than ever. Because of our volunteers, more neighbors across the North Shore can access fresh, local food with dignity.

To every volunteer who has shown up for Nourishing the North Shore: thank you. Your generosity creates real impact.

This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the connection between healthy land, local farms, and a nourished community. 🌎🌱

In 2026, Nourishing the North Shore is working to expand our Farm SHARE program to serve 87 households — a 30% increase over last year.

Farm SHARE provides free or subsidized CSA memberships to local families, increasing access to fresh produce while creating reliable income for local farmers.

Supporting local farms also supports the environment by reducing food miles, preserving farmland, and strengthening a more sustainable food system.

This Earth Day, help nourish neighbors and support the land that sustains us all.

❄️ What does Nourishing the North Shore do in the winter? 🌱

We get asked this question a lot — especially when the snow is on the ground and local growing slows down.

Here’s the answer: the work doesn’t stop.

Since the start of the new year, our team has distributed 3,265 lbs (13,060 servings!) of fresh vegetables to our hunger-relief partners — including cabbage, apples, beets, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, butternut squash, onions, carrots, spinach, radishes, turnips, and more. 🥕🍎🧅

Many of these crops store beautifully when handled properly, allowing us to continue providing fresh, nutritious food to our neighbors receiving services at Among Friends Meal Program, Newbury Food Pantry, Sacred Hearts Pantry, and Pettengill Food Pantry.

Winter is also a critical planning season for NNS. This is when we:
🌾 Set annual purchasing agreements with our farm partners
📦 Plan distribution for existing and new hunger-relief partners
⚙️ Dig into our operational systems to identify opportunities for efficiency and growth
👥 And prepare to welcome new members to our team (more on that soon!)

If you’re curious about what’s cooking at NNS during the “off-season,” send us a DM ☕️ — we’d love to cozy up with a cup of coffee or tea and share more about our winter work.

New year, same mission. With your support, we’re stepping into 2026 full of hope — increasing our purchases from local farms and growing our distribution of fresh produce with both longtime and new hunger-relief partners across Northeast Essex County. Thank you for being a partner in expanding access to fresh, local food for all. 🌱
