One World Strong Foundation

One World Strong Foundation The One World Strong Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by acts of terrorism or traumatic events.

Empowering survivors, building resilience, and preventing violence by connecting those affected by terrorism and mass violence for peer support and lasting change. We endeavor to provide compassion and support to individuals and families who have suffered injuries or lost love ones within a few weeks of their trauma, at a time when the full weight of a new reality can be overwhelming. Our foundati

on recognizes the importance of connecting with a community composed of caring individuals that have themselves been impacted by trauma and whom have navigated the complex labyrinth of physical and emotional recovery. The One World Strong organization was created by survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings as a way to help others dealing with traumatic injuries suffered as a result of man-made disasters. The inspiration for One World Strong was the critical support and mentorship we ourselves experienced in our darkest hours. In the days following the marathon bombings, a group of Veterans injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, members of the Semper Fi Fund, felt compelled to visit Boston survivors to provide a very unique form of guidance and encouragement. The Veteran Semper Fi Fund representatives were matched with survivors having similar injuries to help illuminate the path forward and the possibility of a positive future. The relationships that ensued allowed many of the marathon survivors to move through the healing process, both physically and emotionally, in a much more efficient and effective way. We are deeply grateful for the support we received and recognize that we now have the very unique ability to provide this invaluable support to others. As an organization, we work closely with other survivors and healthcare experts within the Boston, 9/11, London’s 7/7 and the Newtown/Sandy Hook communities. Working together, we are able to deploy a resource team composed of survivors from these communities to areas within the US and around the globe to meet with those recently effected by traumatic events. We utilize personal visits, secure private networks and social media to establish interpersonal connections and provide ongoing support throughout the recovery and healing process. We strive to unite and heal in the face of division and harm. We want others to know that they are never alone. We encourage survivors like ourselves to always find a way to move forward and to never give up. Together, we can be One World Strong.

When we talk about recovering from mass violence and terrorism, we have to talk about the unique barriers faced by male survivors. Men are significantly less likely to seek out both physical and mental help after a traumatic event. Anything from minimizing physical injuries to carrying the invisible weight of PTSD can derail long-term healing.

For , we want to remind the men in our global community that seeking care, whether talking to a doctor, taking time to process grief, or connecting with peers, is an act of strength. It's not weak to speak.

For an easy first step, check out the Resilience Net app, available now in the Apple App Store. Resources like 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline and Veterans Crisis Line are available 24/7.

Happy ! Today is a beautiful global celebration of the joy, potential, and bright futures of children everywhere.

Celebration means fierce advocacy. This day was created to advocate for children's rights and their overall well-being. Children are incredibly resilient, but are not immune to the weight of difficult or traumatic events they may experience or witness.

We can all play a part in building a safer world for the next generation. This is a great article about helping children and adolescents cope with trauma. Read and share the guide here: https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/helping-children-and-adolescents-cope-with-disasters-and-other-traumatic-events

This fact sheet presents information on how children and adolescents respond to traumatic events, and what family, friends, and trusted adults can do to help.

Mental Health Awareness Month may be coming to an end, but mental health matters every single day of the year.
At One World Strong, we believe mental health should remain a priority far beyond the month of May. Healing, support, and honest conversations are important every day, and no one should feel like they have to struggle alone.
We remain committed to providing resources, support, and encouragement for those facing mental health challenges.

Nine years ago, a devastating act of terror at the Manchester Arena claimed 22 lives. This event forever changed families, survivors, and the community. The heartbreak was felt globally.

Manchester chose to answer hatred with an unbreakable wave of love, unity, and resilience. Symbolized by the iconic Manchester Worker Bee, the city showed the world that a community standing together cannot be broken. Below are pictures of the Glade of Light Memorial, the 22 Bees Mural, and the Manchester Bee Monument.

Today, we honor those we lost and stand in solidarity with the survivors. We must daily renew our commitment to mass violence prevention, education, and building a world where our youth can gather in safety and joy. Love will always have the final word.
