Zawadi African Dance & Drum, Inc. Our mission is to enhance our community through traditional African dance, drum, & history. The School was established in 1994.

Zawadi in Swahili means "Gift", and at Zawadi school we feel that everyone has the gift of dance. The school's greatest aspiration is to develop our youth into being culturally motivated, aware, respectful of themselves, others and most of all our elders.

Meet Mekka! Mekka Niambi is a professional dancer, licensed cosmetologist, entrepreneur, and cosmetology instructor whose career bridges the worlds of entertainment, beauty, and education.
Her performance credits include Coming 2 America, The Color Purple, and serving as a principal dancer in Fela! The Musical. Trained under renowned artists such as Debbie Allen and Mama Karen, Mekka is technically trained in multiple dance styles. While her versatility spans many disciplines, African dance remains the foundation of her artistry and her greatest passion.
For over 20 years, Mekka has been a dedicated performer and leader with Zawadi African Dance and Drum Inc., sharing the rich traditions, history, and spirit of African dance with audiences near and far.
