Greater Newark Conservancy is excited to share Plot It Fresh workshop dates for our upcoming Fall 2026!

We’ve got lots of fun things lined up for Autumn and we’d love for you to join us for the season’s offerings!

From crop planning, cover cropping to soil health and food preservation, Greater Newark Conservancy’s Plot It Fresh can’t wait to have you all learn in community this Autumn for season. We are also pleased to announce seed sovereignty as a new and key program pillar of community gardening and food security.

In addition to our hands-on workshops, we’re collaborating with Seed Savers Exchange to provide virtual seed saving courses - creating more learning opportunities for food sovereignty for Newark and the surrounding community.

As we adjust to shifts in climate and temperature, Plot It Fresh is looking to move towards hybrid learning - offering the growing community more options in virtual skill building with in person programs. 🍎🧡 September is Hunger Action Month 🧡🍎

Everyone deserves access to fresh, nutritious food. This September, we’re recognizing Hunger Action Month and the collective work it takes to build a more equitable food system in Newark. 🌱

At Greater Newark Conservancy, increasing access to healthy food is at the heart of so much of what we do—from growing fresh produce and supporting community gardens to bringing affordable fruits and vegetables directly into Newark neighborhoods through our farmers markets. 🥕🌿

Throughout the month, we encourage our community to take action in ways big and small:

🥬 Shop and support local farmers markets
🌱 Get involved with community growing initiatives
🤝 Support organizations working to strengthen food access
📣 Help spread awareness about food insecurity in our communities

We’re excited to be part of the 10th Annual ANJEE Autumn Outdoor Conference this September at YMCA of the Pines! 🌱

🍽🌿 Plot to Plate Culinary Workshop Recap 🌿🍽

We kicked off our summer Plot to Plate series with Chef Afi Green—bringing the garden straight to the kitchen in the most delicious way! 💚

In July, Chef Afi guided participants through a flavorful and approachable recipe: grilled harissa steaks with chickpea relish—showing just how simple and nutritious cooking from the garden can be. 🌱

Chef Afi reminded us that getting started can be as easy as a garden salad—and as your harvest grows, so can your creativity, turning fresh ingredients into full meals and menus. 🌿

IPM Basics for Plot & Gardens (Claudia Urdanivia, Rutgers Coop Extension, Essex County) has been rescheduled to Wednesday, August 19th 4-6pm.

Get basic IPM tips and care as the growing season and season’s heat continues to unfold.

It’s August...If you grow food - then you know pests.
Join us for a thorough session on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) basics for growers of any experience level. We’ll learn how to identify, source and prevent these pesky friends from taking over your growing space (and your season).

This session will start with Claudia sharing some interesting facts and IPM basics. We will then be lead through a hands on section in /around the onsite demo beds where we will learn more about the various types of pest pressure and how we can reduce them.
