🌸🐝 Plot It Fresh Summer Workshop Recap: Native Pollinator Patches 🐝🌸

In late August, our community gathered at the Conservancy’s Sundial for a hands-on Horticulture Basics skillshare and workday focused on creating and maintaining native pollinator patches. 🌿

Led by Greater Newark Conservancy Horticulturalist Suliama Elemam, participants explored what it takes to cultivate a successful pollinator habitat—especially within an urban environment.

The group learned about:

🐝 The important role native pollinators play in supporting healthy ecosystems
🌱 How to create and maintain native pollinator patches
🌼 Plant spacing, growing patterns, and how they can impact pollinator activity
🏙️ Ways urban growing spaces can provide valuable habitat for local pollinators

Then it was time to put that knowledge into action! Participants got hands-on in the Conservancy’s pollinator habitat, identifying plants and helping clear and thin the space to create a healthier environment for future pollinators. 🦋🌿

Thank you to everyone who joined us and lent a hand, and a special thank you to Suliama for sharing practical knowledge that our local growing community can use to better support pollinators and the ecosystems we all share. 💚
