Newark Bike Project Non-profit used bike donations, sales, repairs & education

NOW OPEN Special programs enable kids and lower income members of the community to own a bicycle.

The Newark Bike Project offers "learn to do-it-yourself" repair facilities, bicycle recycling, and educational programs for the Newark, Delaware, community. History
Inspired by the wonderful Urban Bike Project of Wilmington, some Newark-area UBP volunteers wished to spread the benefits of a UBP-style shop to Newark. In November 2011, a small group of bicycle enthusiasts started to formalize this interest by gathering various Newark biking advocates to brainstorm ideas for a community-led bike organization. The Newark Bike Project is organized and run by volunteers among the residential and University of Delaware communities in Newark. Anyone who is passionate about biking, helping others, learning, and improving their community through the advancement of biking is encouraged to join us! How it works
A bike project centers around a community repair shop with shared professional tools and knowledgeable teaching-oriented volunteer mechanics. Funding comes from donations, grants, parts sales, and the refurbishing and sale of donated bicycles that would otherwise have been discarded.

"For Fiona Tagami, Whisper Doll began in a bedroom in Atlanta, long before it became the Brooklyn band it is now. While still in high school, she started writing music there, drawn to the hazy, intimate world of bands such as The Sundays, Mazzy Star and The Cranberries. By the time Perfume Garden appeared in 2024, Tagami had moved to New York and was gradually building the band she had always wanted Whisper Doll to become."

Bring your bike to Delaware Ave at the UD Green on Wednesday, 9/30, 11-1:30 and Thursday 10/8, 11:30-2 for our fall Bike Safety Checks. The checkpoints provide bicyclists with free safety information, maps, bicycle lights, helmets, and basic bicycle repairs. The program is designed to help keep residents, workers, and students safe while traveling by bicycle. Reps from DelDOT, UD Public Safety, BikeNewark, Newark Bike Project, Delaware Commute Solutions, and WILMAPCO will be there to help!
