AI is creating more than coding jobs.

As companies invest heavily in data centers and the infrastructure behind artificial intelligence, demand is growing for electricians, HVAC specialists, facilities technicians, cybersecurity professionals, logistics experts, and other skilled workers.

Military veterans are especially well positioned for these careers. Their technical training, operational discipline, problem-solving ability, and experience working in mission-critical environments can translate directly into data center roles.

The challenge is making sure veterans understand where these opportunities exist—and helping employers recognize the value of military experience.

Sometimes, something as simple as a bicycle can help a veteran keep moving forward.

GI Go Fund recently provided bicycles to two veterans in Newark who needed reliable transportation for work, medical appointments, and everyday responsibilities.

Navy Veteran Kevin L. Jackson, who recently secured housing in Fairview, and Army Veteran Jerome Brown, who is currently working toward permanent housing, received the bicycles at our Newark Veterans Center.

For veterans facing housing instability, transportation can affect nearly every part of the path toward greater stability—from getting to work consistently to attending medical appointments, meeting with case managers, and accessing essential services.

Through our longstanding partnership with Soldier On, GI Go Fund continues working to address these practical barriers and help veterans build greater independence and long-term stability.

A home can provide stability. A job can provide something more: purpose, independence, confidence, and a path forward.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs recently shared the story of Air Force Veteran James Barger, whose journey took him from addiction and housing instability to a meaningful career serving Veterans and their families.

After connecting with VA support through HUD-VASH, James entered the National Cemetery Administration’s Cemetery Apprentice Program. What began as an opportunity to get back on his feet became a long-term career.

His story is a powerful reminder that ending Veteran homelessness requires more than housing alone.

Employment, financial stability, supportive services, mentorship, and access to the right resources can all play a critical role in helping Veterans build lasting independence.

At GI Go, we see this connection every day in our work helping Veterans access employment, career services, financial counseling, benefits assistance, housing-related resources, and ongoing support.

Helping a Veteran find housing is an important step. Helping that Veteran build the stability to remain housed, grow, and move forward is just as important.

Reliable transportation can be life-changing for veterans—helping them get to work, attend medical appointments, care for their families, and maintain their independence.

That is why GI Go Fund provides bicycles to veterans facing transportation barriers, and why we were glad to see four New Jersey veterans recently receive refurbished vehicles through the NABC Recycled Rides program, with support from GEICO, Dynasty Auto Body, and other community partners.

Whether it is a bicycle or a car, access to transportation can open the door to stability, opportunity, and independence.

Access to care is not only about whether services exist—it is also about whether veterans know where to turn and can successfully navigate the healthcare system.

St. Luke’s University Health Network has launched a Veterans Health Care Navigation Line, providing veterans and their families with a single, trusted point of contact for help with insurance questions, referrals, appointment scheduling, benefits and access to care.

The navigation line is part of a broader effort by St. Luke’s to create a more coordinated and veteran-centered healthcare experience. The Network provides primary and specialty care, mental-health services and wellness programs, and works with TRICARE, the VA Community Care Network and other military health programs to help coordinate services.

This is an especially meaningful regional resource. St. Luke’s operates throughout eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey, including communities in Warren and Hunterdon counties.

At GI Go Fund, we have seen firsthand how important knowledgeable, personalized guidance can be when veterans are navigating healthcare, employment, housing and benefits. We applaud St. Luke’s for making it easier for veterans and their families to understand their options and connect with the care they need.

Creating time and distance during a moment of crisis can save a life.

We are proud to help highlight the **Key into Care** campaign launched by our longtime friends at **Vets4Warriors** and **Worried About a Veteran**.

This initiative provides free firearm-safety care packages to Veterans and the people who support them. Each package includes a secure lockbox for the key to an existing firearm-storage device, guidance for starting conversations about safe storage, and access to confidential, Veteran-specific peer support available 24 hours a day.

This campaign is especially meaningful to us. Vets4Warriors is based at Rutgers University, where GI Go Fund was founded more than 20 years ago in off-campus housing in New Brunswick. Our organizations share deep New Jersey roots and a longstanding commitment to ensuring that Veterans and their families have someone to turn to when they need support.

Key into Care is not about judgment. It is about providing Veterans, families and caregivers with a practical tool that can create a lifesaving pause during a temporary crisis.
