This experiential workshop explores Hip Hop as a powerful clinical tool within music therapy practice. Rooted in community, storytelling, and innovation, Hip Hop offers music therapists culturally responsive frameworks for engagement, identity exploration, emotional expression, and empowerment. Through historical grounding and interactive exploration of core Hip Hop practices like cyphers, freestyling, and DJing, participants will examine how Hip Hop can inform ethical, culturally attuned clinical work across multiple populations and settings.

Drawing on decades of drumming experience, this workshop highlights the benefits of rhythmic understanding in fostering deeper connections with clients and enhancing therapeutic outcomes. Through use of metronome exercises and rhythmic timing, attendees will not only open their ears to different ways of listening and hearing, but also discover how these techniques can broaden their musicality and deepen their ability to connect with clients.

With rhythmic training often overlooked in many music therapy programs, this workshop is designed to fill that gap, offering participants practical skills to enrich their practice and elevate their work.
