On October 6, Bishop Mesrop Parsamyan, Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America, visited the Armenian Sisters Academy in Philadelphia, where he was warmly welcomed by students, faculty, clergy, and members of the community.
The visit began at the entrance of the Academy with the traditional Armenian welcome of bread and salt, followed by an official reception. Bishop Mesrop then toured the classrooms, met with students and teachers, and observed firsthand the educational and cultural work taking place at the school.
A highlight of the visit was a special program in the auditorium, where students presented Armenian songs, recited poetry, and performed traditional dances. The performances reflected the Academy’s ongoing commitment to preserving Armenian faith, language, culture, and identity among a new generation.
The timing of the visit held particular significance, as it took place during Armenian Cultural Month in the United States and as the Armenian Church prepares to celebrate the Feast of the Holy Translators, honoring St. Sahag, St. Mesrob Mashtots, and the generations of translators, teachers, and scholars who played a vital role in preserving the Armenian Christian faith and culture.
At the conclusion of the student program, Bishop Mesrop addressed the children, encouraging them to recognize their education not only as a gift, but also as a responsibility. He reminded them that the future of the Armenian Church and nation will one day be entrusted to their generation.
Bishop Mesrop expressed his gratitude to Sister Emma Moussayan, Principal of the Armenian Sisters Academy and Local Superior of the Armenian Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, for her hospitality, leadership, and dedication to the school’s mission.
He also thanked the Academy’s Board, faculty, teachers, parents, supporters, and benefactors for their continued commitment.
Joining Bishop Mesrop for the visit were members of the Armenian clergy serving the greater Philadelphia community: Fr. Asadur Minasian, Fr. Hagop Gevorgyan, and Fr. Armash Baghdasarian, whose warm welcome and fellowship added to the spirit of the day.
Also present were Diocesan Council members Dr. Garo Garibian and his wife, Cece, and Alex Topakbashian, who joined the Academy community in welcoming the Primate and sharing in the day’s celebration.
