Learning how to read is a process all of our little friends grow through. We created a house for each of our families "AT" , "UG", "IT", and a few others.

We created different ways to use these cards and have fun learning. The goal is reading, the fun is mandatory. 🙃😎

This sheet allows us to draw pictures of things we know fits.

This sheet allows us to practice writing .

This sheet allows us to understand connections.

This sheet allows for a child to work independently.

Here's one shift that can make AI dramatically more useful in your homeschool.

Instead of:
“Create a homeschool lesson for my 5-year-old.”
Give the tool context.
Try thinking through:
Who is my child?
What are we working on?
What can they already do?
Where are they struggling?
What interests them?
How much time do we realistically have?
What outcome am I trying to reach?

Then use AI to help you build, adapt, brainstorm or organize.
See the difference?
The quality of the tool's output improves when your thinking becomes clearer first.

That's bigger than AI.
That's Roadmap thinking.

AI can help you brainstorm.
AI can help you organize.
AI can help you create.
AI can help you adapt.
AI can help you save time.

But AI does not know your child the way you do.
It doesn't see the frustration before the meltdown.
It doesn't know which topic makes your child's eyes light up.
It doesn't know your family's values.
It doesn't know whether the beautiful five-day schedule it just generated is completely unrealistic for your Tuesday. 😂

That's why today's Literacy & Lattes conversation matters.
AI should be a tool in your homeschool—not the architect of it.
You still need judgment.
You still need observation.
You still need goals.
You still need a roadmap.
And then?
Use the tools available to make carrying that roadmap easier.

AI can give a homeschool parent:
100 lesson ideas.
A five-day unit.
A reading passage.
A science experiment.
A schedule.
A vocabulary list.
A worksheet.
A field-trip plan.
And approximately 947 more things to put on the homeschool to-do list. 😂
That's exactly why AI needs to come after clarity, not before it.
A powerful tool cannot decide what matters most for your child unless you first understand what you're trying to build.

The better question isn't:
“What can AI make for me?”
It's: “What does my child need—and how can AI help me build or support that more efficiently?”

You do not need to panic-plan the entire year tonight.
You do not need another late-night curriculum shopping spree.
You do not need somebody else's color-coded schedule.
You need to know:
Where is my child now?
Where are we trying to go?
What matters most in this season?
What can our family realistically sustain?
What resources actually support those priorities?
And what is our next step?

One thing I shared on our last Literacy & Lattes episode is this: reading comprehension is not just about getting the “right” answer. It’s about helping children think deeply enough to question, explain, connect, and make meaning.
Do not just teach children how to get an answer. Teach them how to question one. 💛
That’s how we build stronger readers, critical thinkers, and confident learners.

Sometimes we make learning harder than it needs to be.

A plant can give your child something to:
🌱 observe
📖 read about
✏️ describe
📏 measure
🎨 draw
💬 discuss
🔎 investigate
🗓️ track over time
One experience.
Multiple skills.
Real context.

That's the kind of interdisciplinary learning I love because children aren't just completing disconnected activities.

They're building knowledge around something they can actually see changing in front of them.
That's the idea behind Garden to Grow.

Before you buy another homeschool resource this week, try something.
Don't ask:
“What curriculum should I buy?”
Ask:
“What does my child need?”
Those questions sound similar.
They aren't.
One starts with a product.
The other starts with a learner.
Maybe your child needs stronger comprehension.
Maybe they need more confidence with writing.
Maybe they need movement.
Maybe they need more challenge.
Maybe they need life skills.
Maybe the academic plan is fine and what your family actually needs is a sustainable rhythm.

Once the need is clear, choosing resources becomes easier.
That's the work of an Architect Parent.
See the child. Define the need. Build intentionally.

I'm building roughly 55 weeks of preschool learning for my son.
And here's the funny part:
I already have 600+ educational resources.

So why am I still building?
Because having resources and having the right roadmap for the child in front of you are two different things.

My son is making me practice the very thing I teach.
Start with the child.
What interests him?
What skills does he need?
What is happening in his real life?
What can we experience, talk about, read about, build, count, investigate and create?
Then I decide what resources belong.
Not the other way around.

That's one reason I'm so excited to bring the Homeschool Roadmap Webinar back in September.
You don't need to spend the year chasing curriculum.
You need enough clarity to know what belongs in your child's learning environment in the first place.
