Daily Bible Reading: Nehemiah 12
The dedication of the wall in Jerusalem was a reminder that they are God’s people, chosen to fulfill His plan in this world (v27). To dedicate a thing, a place, or a person to God is an act of faith, a declaration that they are devoted and set aside exclusively for the Lord’s use. They are set apart for the Lord and belong to God alone. For this reason, true Christians are concerned with the cleansing and purity of their whole being. As followers of Christ we have been forgiven, sanctified, and will be glorified, so that all our possessions and enjoyments in life are made holy unto the Lord. Let us therefore be careful and cheerful in carrying out our assignments so that they may give glory to our King, Jesus Christ. God bless you.

Daily Bible Reading: Nehemiah 11
The people were distributed throughout the cities of Judah, and one in ten were allowed to live in Jerusalem, the holy city (v1). They were given specific tasks to perform, and each person had his or her own ministerial assignment for the people and for God. This account shows that God determines where people should live and when they should appear in the course of history. As Paul said, “God marked out men’s appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands” (Acts 17:26). Our task is to seek God’s perfect will, which pleases Him, so that people in our age may be blessed through our lives. This is also a way of preparing the next generation for the assignments God has planned for them. God bless you.

Daily Bible Reading: Nehemiah 10
The returnees made a covenant to separate themselves from the peoples of the land, including their foreign wives and children; a difficult thing for ordinary people to do (v29). They did it for the sake of the Lord. They devoted themselves to studying the Word of God, obeying the commandments, observing ordinances, bringing offerings, and installing the priests and Levites for temple service. No one was exempt from giving tithes and offerings, including the priests and Levites (v34). This chapter highlights the importance of both private and public worship: personal devotion, obedience to God, and participation in congregational activities such as Sunday worship, Bible study, evangelism, and fellowship. We are to do these things in a spirit of humility and love, performing our duties with gladness in Christ our Lord. God bless you.

Daily Bible Reading: Nehemiah 9
The prayer in this chapter calls them back to their history, a recollection of the past: God’s covenant with Abraham, the favor shown to their ancestors, the provisions He had bestowed, Israel’s rebellion (v6), and God’s readiness to forgive their iniquities. As we study the Bible and measure ourselves against the people God intends us to be, we recognize our self-centeredness and our inability to perform the works of the Lord. We exist because of His great love; we serve because of His favor; we belong to His kingdom because of His will. Our response should be prayer and humility: acknowledging God’s power and sovereignty and committing to obedience because of His forgiveness. Rather than condemning ourselves for past failures, let us press on toward maturity and approach the throne of our living God, Jesus Christ, with boldness. God bless you.

Daily Bible Reading: Nehemiah 8
While Nehemiah restored the walls, Ezra restored the Law of Moses. When Ezra began to read God’s Word, all the people stood, showing the importance of teaching-preaching ministry (v3). Ezra’s assistants gave the sense of the words, and helped the people understand the reading (v8). The Word of God demands careful attention, because carelessness can lead people to wrong decisions in a slippery and chaotic world. The result of Ezra’s exposition was enormous; unity, love, and celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles (v14). Their strength included joy in the Lord, because the better we understand God’s Word, the more comfort we find in it (v10). Conversely, trouble and confusion come when ignorance remains. Let us therefore meditate on the Bible daily and strive to obey God’s commands. God bless you.
