On July 5th, the Grand Lodge of the State of New York Free & Accepted Masons and Mariners Lodge No. 67 had the honor and privilege of hosting a reception as part of the International Naval Review 250 (Sail4th 250), welcoming more than 400 members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and sailors from allied nations around the world. The event took place in the magnificent Grand Lodge Room of Masonic Hall, graciously provided by the Trustees of the Masonic Hall and Home under the leadership of President R∴W∴ George Filippidis The evening was made all the more special by the presence and participation of Grand Master M∴W∴ Robert Hogan, Deputy Grand Master R∴W∴ Oscar Alleyne and other members of the Grand Line, together with the Masonic War Veterans Of the State of New York.

In addition to those identified above, the reception would not have been possible without the dedication, organization, planning and tireless efforts of Mariners Lodge’s Junior Deacon Bro Sean Kaz and Grand Chaplain R∴W∴ Fahimul Islam together with the support of Past Masters R∴W∴s Levent Ozkurt, Samuel Lloyd Kinsey and Zachary Nathaniel Ostrow. Special thanks are also owed to the large number of Brothers, including Grand Treasurer R∴W∴ John T Hansen, who volunteered for a full day of setup, service and cleanup.

Our guests had such a wonderful time that, after the Masons joined voices for the Mariners Lodge Shanty, they responded with rousing renditions of Anchors Aweigh and the Marines’ Hymn.

Freemasonry is at its best when it brings people together in friendship, gratitude, and relief. We look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come. Here are a few pictures of the event, but for the full album, visit:

Today, the Grand Lodge of New York commemorates Juneteenth, a day that marks the fulfillment of freedom for the last enslaved Americans and serves as a reminder of our nation’s continuing journey toward liberty and equality.

As Freemasons, we are guided by the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth, and we honor the dignity, worth, and humanity of all people.

May this day inspire reflection, unity, and a renewed commitment to the ideals of freedom and justice for all.
