Learning Zone is an out-of-school-time program dedicated to the idea that childhood is a time of wonder and that the world is our classroom. Learning Zone provides tutoring, homework help and enrichment activities before and after school for students in grades K-5. During the pandemic, we also provide a virtual learning day camp as needed by the closure of our area school systems, giving children
a safe place to do their school work and spend part of their day when they are out of the traditional classroom. Learning Zone is not day care but a program designed to give children a fun space after school to be themselves, explore fun ways to learn, make friends, improve school performance, develop study skills in math and language arts, and receive help in subjects and areas that needs improvement in their classrooms. We do this in both group and individual settings with one-on-one tutoring and tailored games and activities. Learning Zone staff believes that out-of-school time programs like ours enhance children's ability to learn and develop beyond the traditional school day. The critical hours between the school day end and dinner time have been shown in study after study for decades to be some of the most important time of the day for social and emotional growth. Children who participate in out-of-school-time programs with a focus on the social/emotional, physical, mental, and cognitive growth of students are more likely to succeed in school, resist risky behaviors, have better school attendance and lower drop-out rates, see improvement in their school performance and grades, and be better prepared for their futures. Learning Zone operates before and after school during the school year and will provide a summer day camp. We do offer snow day camp days and holiday week day camps, but we are closed on major holidays. We are an equal opportunity provider CACFP At-risk Center that provides both snacks and meals when appropriate.
