As National Volunteer Month comes to a close tomorrow, we’re reflecting on the people who have helped shape Jericho Road over the past 20 years.

More than 4,000 volunteers have been part of this work, supporting neighborhood projects, community initiatives, and engagement across Southeast Louisiana. Their time and commitment have helped strengthen communities and support families in meaningful ways.

At Jericho Road, we are intentional about building partnerships locally and nationally, and our volunteers are a vital part of that network. From dedicated community members to interns from local colleges and universities, each person plays a role in moving this work forward.

As we celebrate 20 years, we’re grateful for everyone who has been part of this journey and the impact we’ve made together.

There’s still time to get involved. Join us.

As we close out this week, we’re reminded that community development is about more than housing. It’s about creating the conditions for people and communities to thrive.

At Jericho Road, our work reflects a comprehensive approach across Southeast Louisiana. From affordable housing development to workforce development and supporting family financial wellness, each part of our work is connected.

Together, these efforts help build stronger, more resilient communities.

As we continue to celebrate Women’s History Month, we reflect on the role women play in building strong families and communities, even as access to housing and economic opportunity has not always been equal.

For generations, women, especially Black women, were excluded from pathways to homeownership and workforce advancement, while continuing to support families and communities.

Today, that story is shifting.

At Jericho Road, women are building skills, accessing stable housing, and creating stronger futures for themselves and their families across Southeast Louisiana.

From workforce development to homeownership, women are building more than houses, they are creating stability, expanding opportunity, and strengthening families and communities in lasting ways.

“Women are at the center of strong families and strong communities. Access to safe, stable housing creates opportunity not just for them, but for their families and the generations that follow.”
— Nicole Barnes, Executive Director

From the women on our team to the women homeowners we serve, and the families connected to that work, we celebrate your leadership, resilience, and impact.

Honoring the Life and Legacy of Traci Simon (1965 - 2025)

This past weekend, with heavy hearts, our team gathered in City Park to celebrate the life of Traci Simon alongside her family and friends from across the country.

Traci served as Jericho Road’s Director of Finance and Operations for nearly eight years. She joined the Jericho Road family in 2017 following the organization’s acquisition of Project Homecoming, where she also served as Finance Director.

Throughout her time with Jericho Road, Traci brought dedication, professionalism, and care to her work. She supported the organization through pivotal years of growth as we expanded our work from the Central City community to neighborhoods across Southeast Louisiana.

Reflecting on her impact, Jericho Road’s Executive Director Nicole Barnes shared:

"Traci was a steady and trusted leader whose commitment to our mission helped strengthen Jericho Road and the communities we serve. She was more than a colleague — she was family."
We remain grateful for the time we shared with Traci.

We ask that you keep her husband, Cantrell, and their daughters, Camille and Julia, along with their entire family, in your thoughts and prayers.

Traci will forever be part of the Jericho Road family.
