It never ceases to amaze me that this little idea that I had to meet families where they are, bring resources into their community, and recenter parents as the tool to disrupt violence, has evolved into the amazing community space we have today. Our Back to School Splash was a blast! We were able to serve hundreds of people. HUNDREDS! And my sweet friend and board member theycallmemommamarks of Melody • Louisiana Portrait Photographer volunteered to capture the moments. 🙏🏼🩷

I don’t think a year will pass that I don’t recall the small beginnings that Kasia, Kristian, and I fostered with love and trust. Events like this, seeing hundreds of smiling faces, hugging faithful families, and doing it alongside dozens of volunteers who believe in our mission, are the fruit of our labor of love.

We can’t say thank you enough to our business sponsors, individual donors, community partners, and volunteers who gave their time and resources to make this event so special for our families.

This was such a fun surprise! A huge thank you to my sweet friends Ash and Desireé Buisson Lee for encouraging me to believe in myself and for nominating me for this! Love Your Neighbor NOLA is such a testimony of God taking what the enemy meant for evil and using it for good. Meeting new families, getting to know the moms in our program and their kids, and hosting events like yesterday's Back to School Splash, bring me so much joy. I'm so grateful for this community!

We need your help! Our Back to School Bash is right around the corner and we need your support! This event is a staple of our program, not only providing school supplies, but also providing wraparound tangible support to make every family feel back to school ready. In addition to school bags with supplies, we also provide after school snack bags, mental health materials, new socks, gently used uniforms, vouchers for haircuts, and a family favorite - pillows with hand sewn pillowcases! The event costs about $5,000 to host and we're currently at about $1,000 raised. Donations of any size are impactful to our efforts to make this a success! All donations can be made through our website with the tag "annual events."

Thank you for spending some time with us and telling this beautiful story about our work. Art Club with was truly an answered prayer and we’re so glad it was highlighted here! Kasia and I are so grateful to the families, volunteers, and therapists who believe in our mission and are making Love Your Neighbor NOLA what it is. I’m so thankful to be able to continue my mom’s legacy of love. 🩷🩷

Have you heard? Love Your Neighbor NOLA is hosting an art club this summer!

Kids ages 6-12 are invited to join Ms. Aki every Monday and Friday from 10-12:30 for mindful art lessons. These free sessions will teach your children to slow down and use their creativity as an outlet.

Only 8 spots left for our Creatives Camp! Starting June 1st, children ages 6–12 can enjoy arts & crafts, storytelling, music, mindfulness, fun games, and more during this free 6-week program in our Love Your Neighbor NOLA office. Classes are Mondays and Fridays, 10:30-12pm.

When I started Love Your Neighbor NOLA, it was because my mother was murdered by young men whose mother lacked the support to help her deter her sons from a life of crime. It isn't an excuse. It's a gap. We recognize the strength and stability mothers provide to their households. Mothers set the mood, raise the bar, and teach our kids how to operate in a world that isn't always so caring. Today, we honor the moms of Love Your Neighbor NOLA, because we know the sacrifices you make, taking the bus, paying for Ubers, finding a way to get to us in the sun and the rain, all because you want to make things different for your family - better. You are committed changemakers, cycle breakers, and caretakers, all at once. We know it isn't always easy, but we hope you know it will always be worth it. You are the mother your children need and today, we celebrate you.
