In this hands-on class, you’ll explore the fundamentals of guitar, including tuning, chords, scales, and the building blocks of melody. Looking ahead to next week, the Center for the Arts invites you to a special gallery reception at New London Hospital on Thursday, November 12, from 5–7 PM.

Meet the artists, spend time with the artwork, and enjoy an evening celebrating the creativity of our local arts community. This exhibition brings together the work of Denise Backman, Sean Carroll, Adrienne Elliott, Mark O’Neil, Shari Samuels, and Chris Scott.

🎅🪵 Turn a simple block of wood into a little holiday magic!

Ever wanted to try woodcarving? Join instructor Wayne Miller at the Center for the Arts for Santa Carving for Beginners, a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn basic carving techniques and create your own small Santa or wizard ornament!

Starting with a piece of basswood, Wayne will guide you step by step through the carving process, with an introduction to technique and tool safety. Knives, safety gloves, and thumb guards will be provided, and if time allows, you can add the finishing touches with paint. ✨

Your finished creation could become a charming addition to your holiday tree or a thoughtful handmade gift for someone special!

Looking for a creative project you’ll actually use long after class is over? Join us at the Center for the Arts for Make a Market Basket with instructor Meg Kupiec!

In this hands-on, one-day workshop, you’ll learn the traditional craft of basket weaving and create a sturdy, handcrafted basket with a wooden handle. Woven with a combination of round and flat reeds and finished with natural seagrass, your basket will be both practical and beautiful—perfect for storage, display, or giving as a thoughtful handmade gift. ✨

No need to gather specialized weaving supplies—Meg will provide those and guide you through the process step by step!

Start at the Center for the Arts for the opening reception of Gems & Wonders: Fine Works in Small Formats. Art grows when we share it. 🧡 Join fellow artists for Art Cafe 2.0 with Alison Vernon at the Center for the Arts for an afternoon of creative connection, thoughtful conversation, and inspiration.

Bring a painting you’re working on, a piece you’ve finished, or a project you’d love another set of eyes on. This welcoming group offers positive, gentle feedback to help artists develop their skills, see their work from new perspectives, and spark ideas for what comes next.
