Today, on International Childhood Cancer Day, we stand with every brave child fighting cancer and every family walking this difficult journey.

In many parts of the world, including Goma and other underserved communities, children are diagnosed too late, not because treatment doesn’t exist, but because access to healthcare does not.

At Wema, we believe every child deserves early diagnosis, proper treatment, and hope for a healthy future.

Let’s raise awareness. Let’s support families. Let’s be the voice for children who deserve a fighting chance.

💛 Early detection saves lives.
💛 Access to care changes stories.
💛 Together, we can make a difference.

Unlike some colors that represent one specific cancer (like Gold for or pink for breast cancer), purple represents cancer as a whole.

It stands for:

Early diagnosis of many types of childhood cancers greatly increases the chances of cure. The early signs of childhood cancer often look like common illnesses: fever, fatigue, pain, swelling, or weight loss.

Unfortunately, challenges like limited access to care, delayed consultations, or difficult living conditions can further postpone a child being seen by a health professional.

Earlier diagnosis means better treatment outcomes and more children given a fighting chance.

Awareness in our communities can change this story. 💛

___________

WEMA was honored to care for Rajab, a 4-year-old who came to us with a metastatic brain tumor. Sadly, he arrived too late for treatment, but we were able to provide comfort, pain-relief medication that had previously been inaccessible to him, and unwavering love in his final days.

Rajab was WEMA’s very first patient. He passed away in March 2023, surrounded by love and care. His memory continues to guide our work as we strive to reach children earlier, when care can still make a difference.

May his soul forever rest in peace. 🕊️❤️‍🩹
