The FEED Kearsarge Coalition meeting scheduled for September was CANCELLED as the advisory team begins planning for an exciting IN-PERSON meeting on OCTOBER 15th for all coalition members and interested community members to reflect on the past year of coalition development, work, and achievements.

Additional focus will highlight the efforts of ongoing work groups and look towards the next season! More details and an invitation will be sent out in the coming weeks! Please SAVE THE DATE and share widely!

Every three years, our community partner New London Hospital conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to better understand the health needs, concerns, and conditions affecting the well-being of people across our region.

The CHNA helps inform hospital services and community health priorities, and its findings can also be a valuable resource for community organizations as they plan programs and services.

As a community member, your perspective is especially important. Your knowledge of the people and communities we serve can help us better understand local needs and identify priorities for the years ahead.

We encourage you to complete the survey and to share it with other community members who live or work within our 15-town service area: Andover, Bradford, Croydon, Danbury, Goshen, Grantham, Lempster, New London, Newbury, Newport, Springfield, Sunapee, Sutton, Washington and Wilmot.

VOLUNTEER FEATURE: NH REFRESH HYGIENE BAGS

When Donna and Dave Bates began researching needs of school-aged children in the Kearsarge region, one statistic stood out: A leading contributor of teen su***de is bullying, and over 55% of teachers report that a primary cause of bullying is hygiene poverty. In speaking with local schools and public health organizations, it became clear that many homes do not have finances to purchase food for weekends and school holidays, let alone for personal cleanliness products. The Bates' conceived the idea of a non-profit that could fill and distribute NH REFRESH HYGIENE BAGS, containing items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, combs, razors, and deodorant. The most recent "bagging party" was Saturday, August 22 (pictured here) where 60 volunteers, including many KNP volunteers, filled 650 new bags in 45 minutes!

In total, the NH Refresh team has filled over 2500 bags for preschoolers, school-aged children, and the elderly, distributed through schools, food pantries, hospitals, town welfare offices, churches and community centers. They have ongoing hygiene drives at several area churches, and have received support from a KNP Seedlings Grant, a generous grant from a local church, a credit union, area service clubs, and other local companies, as well as items contributed from dental practices. The hope is that a pilot project begun with Kearsarge area hairdressers will eventually provide discounted haircuts through NH Refresh.

MANY THANKS TO OUR GREAT TABLERS! We want neighbors who need help to be familiar with KNP's services, and we want folks looking for opportunities to serve to know about our network of volunteers! Our tabling volunteers have done a great job throughout the region this summer at KNP information tables, and we give them a hearty round of applause. We hope you enjoyed August information tables at the Warner Farmers Market, the New London Bandstand, and the Sunapee Farmers Market. Come see us at our information table at the Sweet Beet Market Community Fair on Sept. 19 from 3-8 pm and enjoy a festival focused on food security, farms and community!
