Yale Divinity School and Chicago Theological Seminary Advance Toward a Historic Affiliation

Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS) announced today that it has entered into formal negotiations—the first stage of a multi-year approval and transition process—to become the Chicago Theological Institute at Yale Divinity School (CTI@YDS). This proposed affiliation, which aims to integrate CTS as an institute for continuing education within YDS, remains subject to approval by the governing bodies of both institutions, applicable accrediting agencies, and other required regulatory review.

✨Come, Holy Spirit. Yesterday, Berkeley Divinity School at Yale welcomed 15 MDiv students from the Class of 2029 and a MDiv student from the Class of 2027 at our annual Matriculation Eucharist and celebration.
Preaching was the Rev'd Dr. Justin Crisp '14 MDiv, '20 PhD and the Eucharist was celebrated by Dean Gabrielle Thomas. 🔉This audio features the Berkeley Hymn, written for the school's sesquicentennial in 2004 with music by the Rev'd Alan Murchie '07 MDiv. 🎶
May the Holy Spirit guide these students in learning, discernment, prayer, and service. "Tonight we commit and recommit ourselves to a Rule of Life that gives substance and shape to our community."

Join us on Saturday, September 26 at 7:30p.m. in Battell Chapel, as principal conductor Grete Pedersen leads Yale Schola Cantorum in the group's first concert of the season, featuring performances of Dieterich Buxtehude's Membra Jesu nostri and Eivind Buene's Untitled (Horizons).

Free and open to the public.

Composed by Dieterich Buxtehude in 1680, Membra Jesu nostri, BuxWV 75, is a cycle of seven cantatas. Each cantata addresses a part of Jesus' crucified body: feet, knees, hands, side, breast, heart and face.

Composed by Eivind Buene, Untitled (Horizons) is a choral work in three movements, with text fragments derived from the great tradition of classical music for choir, chosen for their ability to say something that rings true in our world today. They do not present any coherent 'story' through the piece, but convey an emotional landscape through sound and associations. The late paintings of Mark Rothko have been important in the composition process, where the music echo his vibrant layers of color split by a lingering horizon.
