In support of its mission, since July 2003, the New Haven, Connecticut non-profit organization has implemented technology programs for children and adults. A working knowledge of computers is the key to accessing advanced educational opportunities and higher-paying jobs. Since computers and the Internet have assumed such a central role in our schools, workplaces and homes, computer literacy has be

come perhaps the most important skill for adults and children alike. Through CfAL Technology & Computer Training Program, CfAL teaches adults how to use a computer to create resumes, search for jobs online (successfully), create budgets and learning how to maintain a computer system. Upon completing the program, adults are able to receive a free refurbished computer to continue building skills at home.

We were honored to attend Governor Ned Lamont's signing of the bipartisan Public Act 26-15.

The bill will help us at CfAL to ensure that Connecticut's workforce is prepared for the challenges that rapid technological growth will present.

It is also designed to protect both children and adults from some of the negative impacts presented by social media and artificial intelligence.

Connecticut lawmakers are celebrating a new bipartisan law aimed at...

Here's a Tech Byte from Instructor Richie: "Lithium-ion batteries are the most common type of rechargeable batteries for our devices. We do have to be somewhat careful with them though, because in storing so much energy, it is possible for them to be explosive if not handled properly. If a lithium battery suffers impact, punctures, or extreme temperatures, the reactions that release energy can start to happen too quickly. This can release that energy in violent forms, like fires and explosions. If your device starts to swell or bubble up near the battery, it means this is happening to your battery more mildly and that battery needs to be replaced ASAP. Careful out there!"

Here's a Tech Byte from Instructor Richie: "Blu-Ray discs can store so much more than a traditional DVD for the simple reason that they read the disk using blue light rather than red! Both kinds of disks are read using an ultra precise lazer to read grooves in a disk. But because blue light has a shorter wavelength than red, the Blu-Ray disk can store data at a higher density, so more data can fit on the same-sized disk!"
