ATTENTION!!!

IF YOU GET SNAP BENEFITS AND LOST FOOD BECAUSE OF THE FLOOD!!!

Households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits who lost food due to storm damage or power outages may be eligible for replacement benefits. Affected individuals will need to submit an affidavit, available here, for replacement benefits. The affidavit must be submitted within 10 days of the event and the loss (due to power outage, flood, etc.) must be verified.

The document may be uploaded to the FSSA Benefits Portal, faxed 888-436-9199 or dropped off at any Division of Family Resources’ office.

The current emergency declaration approval allows FEMA funding for emergency disaster response, NOT assistance for individual homeowners and renters. Individual assistance requires another step and another federal approval. A lot of people are going to assume help is coming that hasn’t actually been approved. For individual homeowners to receive FEMA assistance, Indiana still needs to document the damage and request a major disaster declaration that includes individual assistance. The president then has to approve the major disaster declaration to activate the FEMA Individuals and Households Program for personal property and home repairs. Each county specifically has to be designated for individual assistance. Again, the current emergency declaration does not provide FEMA assistance directly to homeowners or renters. Document all damage and report to 211.

Our community has been through a lot, and we want to make sure the help we provide is the help families need.

The Lightkeepers of Henry County will be working with the Henry Township Trustee’s Office in the coming days to provide individualized assistance to families affected by the recent flooding.

Families needing help will sign up through the Trustee’s Office, and we will collect supplies for specific families so we can provide the correct sizes, household items, and essentials they need.

We know many wonderful organizations and community members are already stepping up. We wanted to make sure we weren’t duplicating efforts, but instead helping fill the gaps where needs still remain.

This weekend, we will begin posting specific family needs along with a link to donate.

Thank you to everyone who has already stepped up to help our neighbors. This is what community is all about—working together and making sure no one falls through the cracks. ❤️

The controversial Pro-ICE “Mass Deportation Rally” originally planned for Fishers has reportedly been moved to Greenfield after organizers were unable to secure a venue in Fishers, according to longtime Indiana political analyst Abdul-Hakim Shabazz.

Earlier, Shabazz reported that organizers were struggling to find a location in Fishers, writing that he was hearing “nobody wants to rent their hall for that.”

He has now reported the event has reportedly been relocated to Greenfield.

Greenfield has historically been identified by historians and researchers as a former sundown town, a community that historically excluded Black residents through formal or informal practices.

That history has led some online to draw comparisons and sparked a new round of debate over the reported relocation.

As of this post, Black Indy LIVE has not independently confirmed the new venue with the event organizers.

The Lightkeepers of Henry County are aware of reports that K*K flyers have been left in various locations around our community.

Hate seeks attention and conflict. Our response will continue to be one of empathy, education, and community.

If you come across any suspicious materials, avoid engaging with those responsible and report concerns to local law enforcement if appropriate.

A huge THANK YOU to Ashley and Holly from Heart of Indiana United Way for spending time with our teens, sharing resources, answering questions, and encouraging them to get involved in making a difference in our community. 💙

We also want to thank the New Castle Fire Department taking a minute to chat with our Lightkeeper Volunteers, take some pictures and give them a chance to connect with some of the incredible people who help keep our community safe every day.

At the Hang Out Hub, hosted by The Lightkeepers of Henry County and TLC, we love bringing community leaders, organizations, and first responders together with our young people. These conversations help build confidence, connections, and a stronger Henry County for everyone.
