💜 Heart Behind the Mission Monday 💜
On Mondays meet the volunteers who help turn our mission into moments that matter.
To kick off our new series, I wanted to share a little of my own story.
Flurries began as a way to honor my mom’s final wishes and carry on her legacy. What started as an idea during one of the hardest seasons of my life became a way for me to channel my grief into something meaningful while building something special alongside my daughter.
What I never expected was how much this program would give back to me.
People often comment on the amount of time our volunteers, coaches, and families dedicate to Flurries. They see the hours spent planning, organizing, coaching, fundraising, and running programs. What I think people sometimes miss is how much we receive in return.
We get to watch athletes discover confidence they didn’t know they had. We get to celebrate milestones that might seem small to others but mean everything to a family. We get to witness friendships form, hear laughter fill a gym, and watch athletes accomplish things they once thought were impossible.
Every practice, every competition, every high five, every hug, and every smile is a reminder of why we started.
Flurries may have begun as a way to honor my mom, but it has become so much more than that. It has become a community built on kindness, inclusion, acceptance, and the belief that every athlete deserves the opportunity to shine.
To our athletes, families, volunteers, coaches, and supporters—thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey. The truth is that while we hope we’re making a difference in your lives, you’ve made an even bigger difference in mine.
