New Albany Safety Town

New Albany Safety Town New Albany Safety Town was launched in 2004 with the support of Key Bank and the New Albany Women's Network through the New Albany Community Foundation.

New Albany Safety Town is a community-based safety education program set within a realistic, child-sized town with buildings, traffic signals, streets, sidewalk areas and child operated "vehicles". Since then, approximately 3,000 children have graduated. The New Albany Chamber of Commerce has recognized Safety Town as its Community Program of the Year, and continued support from the New Albany Wom

en's Network and other sponsors has been integral to the success of this now well-established program. This safety awareness program is held each summer for children entering kindergarten or first grade in the upcoming fall school year. Each day, the program explores a different safety topic, including stranger awareness, water safety, fire safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, poison prevention, animal safety and school bus safety. All Safety Town instructors are state-certified elementary school teachers

Day 3
Session II
June PM
Part 1

Today we traveled to the Plain Township Aquatics Center for an exciting day of learning all about water safety! Our students had a wonderful time learning important skills from the lifeguard team, including:

💦 Bobbing in the water
💦 What to do when their legs get tired while swimming
💦 How to safely help a friend who may be in trouble
💦 Floating on both their fronts and backs
💦 Practicing kicking techniques using kickboards

The fun didn’t stop there! After returning to school, students put their energy to good use with a fun obstacle course race.

A huge THANK YOU to the Plain Township Administration, pool management team, and lifeguard staff for providing such a fun and educational experience. We appreciate your partnership in helping our students build confidence and learn valuable water safety skills that can last a lifetime!

Part 2

Today, Ofc Leland Kelly visited our campers and read There’s a Squirrel in My Tummy!

The story taught an important lesson about listening to that feeling in our tummy that warns us when something doesn’t feel right or safe. Campers had a blast playing Safety Bingo and learning that when in doubt, it’s always best to ask a trusted adult for help!

We had another fun day at Adventureland, learning about the significance of each sign and we took our Child ID picture’s! Be on the look out for the cards in your child’s back pack.
