New Albany Safety Town is a community-based safety education program set within a realistic, child-sized town with buildings, traffic signals, streets, sidewalk areas and child operated "vehicles". Since then, approximately 3,000 children have graduated. The New Albany Chamber of Commerce has recognized Safety Town as its Community Program of the Year, and continued support from the New Albany Wom
en's Network and other sponsors has been integral to the success of this now well-established program. This safety awareness program is held each summer for children entering kindergarten or first grade in the upcoming fall school year. Each day, the program explores a different safety topic, including stranger awareness, water safety, fire safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, poison prevention, animal safety and school bus safety.
