Prof. Jason Hoeksema from the University of Mississippi recently spoke at the Union County Heritage Museum educating about mushrooms, where to look, how to know the differences, how to spot the edibles and which ones not to ingest! Interior designer and native of New Albany, Elizabeth Joslin Coombs sat down with us and discussed what nurtures her creative spirit, what inspired her to go down the creative path that she has chosen and how she and spouse Braxton Coombs have been transforming our community one property at a time. She discusses plans and progress on The Shands building, the Old Shirt Factory and the Hutchins House in Blue Mountain. They and their team have transformed over 50 properties between New Albany and Blue Mountain and they haven’t slowed down a bit. At our annual meeting last Friday W***y Bearden spoke about a photo that was taken of downtown Memphis over 100 years ago. At the time, the view was unremarkable. But now, that photo of daily life gives us valuable insight into the past. The same can be said of this photo of downtown New Albany. Car models change, shops change, but some parts of daily life never change- you know you're in New Albany when they start parking in the middle of the road!

Museum Makers Kid’s Camp is a summer discovery program co-sponsored by the Union County Heritage Museum, Corporate Sponsors: BNA Bank, King Therapy and UNITE, and Community Sponsor New Albany Junior Auxiliary. Camp is for students entering 2nd grade - entering 6th grade in the fall of 2026. Camp is limited to 30 kids each day in a morning session which will be 9am-12noon. Spots are filled on a first come, first served basis. Spots are available for the entire week or by day at museum member and non-member rates!

Our annual luncheon was held on Friday, June 5 and our guest speaker was filmmaker W***y Bearden. Willie created the intro video for our Sporting Life exhibit as well as the one for our new Creative Spirits gallery (opening later this year). W***y is a great speaker and even shared the current draft of the video he has been working on for our new gallery. We hope you will watch to what he had to say and to get a sneak peek of the new Creative Spirits intro video!
