Union County Animal Shelter & Rescue

Union County Animal Shelter & Rescue Union County Animal Shelter & Rescue was created by local residents who were tired of seeing abandoned, injured, and homeless animals with nowhere to go.

We are working to build Union County’s first dedicated animal shelter while actively rescuing animals, providing medical care, and supporting fosters and adoptions throughout our community. For years, our county has needed a real shelter — so we decided to step up and start building one. We are currently working on forming our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we have experienced rescuers, fosters, and vol

unteers who have already been saving animals from their own homes for years. This page is our central hub for updates, fundraising, emergency needs, and community involvement. We believe in transparency, accountability, and compassion. Every donation, every receipt, every update will be shared publicly. This isn’t “our” shelter it’s a shelter built by the people of Union County, for the animals of Union County. Together, we’re finally doing what our county has needed for far too long.

🐾 FACT OF THE DAY 🐾

Did you know?

Every time a dog is adopted from a shelter, it creates space for another animal in need. One adoption doesn’t just save one life it helps save two. ❤️🐶

The Reality of Rescue

This isn’t a fundraising post.
This isn’t a political post.
This is simply the reality of animal rescue.

Every week, people contact us because they can no longer care for an animal. Some are facing financial hardship. Some have housing issues. Some are overwhelmed. We understand that life happens.

What many people don’t understand is that rescue groups cannot magically create space, funding, foster homes, food, veterinary care, or transportation.

The volunteers answering messages are often caring for animals in their own homes, spending their own money, and sacrificing their own time to help as many animals as possible.

When a rescue says, “We don’t have room,” it doesn’t mean we don’t care.

It means we’re already at capacity.

Threatening to dump an animal, abandon it, or make it “someone else’s problem” doesn’t solve the issue. It only creates another animal in crisis and places even more strain on the people trying to help.

If you’re struggling with a pet, please reach out. We will do everything we can to offer guidance, networking assistance, rehoming resources, and advice. But please understand that help isn’t always the same as immediate intake.

This is exactly why Union County needs stronger animal welfare resources and why we’re working so hard to build something sustainable for the future.

To those who foster, donate, volunteer, transport, advocate, and open your homes to animals in need: thank you. You’re the reason any of this is possible.

We’re not giving up. We just ask that our community work with us, not against us.

❤️🐾

We tried to do the right thing, and we will continue to do the right thing, even when it doesn’t always go as planned.

This is Remi. Her spay was originally estimated at $135, but because we were not informed that she was in heat, the procedure became much more complicated and her bill increased to $250. This was an unexpected expense that we simply weren’t prepared for.

On top of that, we are still carrying a balance at the vet from Atlas’ heartworm treatment. Rescue work is full of moments like these, when you step up to help and suddenly find yourself facing costs you never anticipated. These animals still deserve care, and we won’t stop fighting for them.

We have already received $40 toward Remi’s spay bill, and we are incredibly grateful for that support. If you would like to help us cover the remaining balance, any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. All donations are tax deductible!!

Thank you for always showing up for the animals who need us most. We truly could not do this without our village. ❤️

Alright, we need to have an honest conversation.

When you reach out to us or our intake coordinator about an animal in need, and we tell you that we are actively working to find rescue placement, please allow us the opportunity to do so before contacting multiple rescues about the same animal.

We understand that everyone involved simply wants the best outcome for the animal, and we truly appreciate people advocating for them. However, when several rescues are being contacted simultaneously without communication between organizations, it can create unnecessary confusion, duplicate efforts, and sometimes even conflict. We may have multiple rescues working on placement for the same dog, all unaware that others have already been approached.

More importantly, this can jeopardize the trust and relationships we have worked hard to build with our rescue partners. When a partner rescue commits to an animal, they often begin making arrangements immediately for planning transport, scheduling veterinary care, budgeting for spay/neuter procedures, and preparing foster or adoption placements. If we later have to withdraw because another rescue was contacted and stepped in first, it can reflect poorly on our organization and damage the professional relationships that allow us to continue saving animals in the future.

We respectfully ask that if you contact us for help, please give us the opportunity to explore our options and provide an answer before reaching out elsewhere. If we are unable to assist, we will always be honest about that, and you are absolutely welcome to continue seeking help from other organizations.

At the end of the day, we all share the same goal: helping animals in need. Clear communication and mutual respect allow us to work together more effectively and ultimately save more lives.

Thank you for understanding and for caring enough to advocate for these animals.

This is Remi. ❤️

Remi belongs to a family that truly loves her. Unfortunately, like many families, they are facing financial hardships and simply cannot afford to have her spayed. They have also struggled to keep her contained, and she is currently running loose with an intact male. It is only a matter of time before another accidental litter happens.

Remi has already had one litter of puppies. Thankfully, a rescue stepped in, took the puppies, and helped them find wonderful homes. That rescue wanted to pay for her spay, but it could only be done at The Snip Station.

I had hoped to get Remi scheduled at The Snip Station, but they are currently about a month behind. Realistically, she could be pregnant again before an appointment becomes available. Because of that, we’re trying to get her spayed as soon as possible. The rescue that took her puppies is willing to pay towards Remi’s spay, but it would be nice if we could come together as a community to get her spay covered.

The cost for her spay surgery and required rabies vaccination is $135. Every dollar donated will go directly toward preventing another litter and giving Remi a healthier, safer future.

Donations can be called in to Ward Veterinary Services at 662-891-2737 under our account for Remi🐾❤️
