We had a great work party at the Booth Family Center. We painted doors, weeded the garden, knocked down the tall grass and built fences. It's amazing how much can get accomplished on a Saturday morning. Go Rotary!

49er Rotarian John Paul will be speaking this Saturday at Oakland Decompression (the Burning Man post-event celebration in the Bay Area) as part of the Burners Without Borders Lightning Round segment: starts at 4:15pm at DeCom Salon (Area D). The event is located at The Loom in Oakland.

It seems that the stars are aligned. Burners will love that Rotary's District 5190 Governor is Larry Harvey. And local Rotarians will love that Black Rock City is within our District. So might it be the perfect time to charter the Rotary Club of Black Rock City?

Today’s the day!

The 49er Breakfast Rotary Duck Race is making a splash creekside at the foot of Broad Street—come join the fun!

Preliminary races begin at noon, with the top 40 ducks from each heat qualifying for the Grand Prize Final Race around 3:30 pm.

Admission is free, race entry tickets will be available at the event, and yes—you can even enjoy an adult beverage while cheering on your duck!

Rotarian Spotlight: Dr. Scott Kellermann

Scott Kellermann’s Rotary journey began in the highlands of Bolivia, where he first saw the Rotary wheel stamped on boxes of medical supplies bound for remote villages. Moved by the reach and compassion of an organization that cared for children in places few had ever visited, he returned home and joined Rotary—guided by the mission and a trusted friend.

Today, Scott’s work in Uganda is a living testament to Rotary’s global impact. From equipping neonatal ICUs and surgical units to supporting nursing education, Rotary International has been a vital partner in building the Bwindi Community Hospital and Uganda Nursing School.

But for Scott, the heart of Rotary is fellowship. “Rotary has been the wind under my wings,” he says, reflecting on the many Rotarians who’ve traveled to Uganda, shared in the work, and lifted his spirits along the way.

Rotarian Spotlight: Terry Brown

Terry Brown joined Rotary with a clear mission: to support the PolioPlus campaign and help eradicate polio worldwide. What he found was a community of changemakers—people energized by service and united by purpose.

Terry stays involved because of that shared spirit. “I’m inspired by the community of people wanting to make a difference in the world,” he says. Through Rotary, he’s found meaning in serving others and encouraging peace—locally and globally.

We’re grateful for Terry’s dedication and heart. His commitment reminds us what Rotary is all about.
