April 2026. First few days in Tegucigalpa and Talanga, working with our director, Gloria Corrales, and following up with many young people we have been working with. We enjoyed a special visit with Melvin Gerardo Hr and his beautiful family. We replaced Melvin's wheelchair, and he is going to donate his old one (we'll repair it), along with an extra one that is too heavy for his needs. We will make sure they go to two deserving people in the region where Melvin's family comes from, in Opatoro.

We have a LOT of news to catch up on! Please don't judge us by the lack of social media ;)
I'll put up daily posts from my recent trip to update all the great work we get to do together- all of it only possible due to the support and hard work of our community partners and our local directors and coordinators.
As always, it is immensely gratifying and inspiring to be "on the ground" with our partners and working directly with patients with significant needs, and on projects that continue to grow.
We really do make a difference working together!

Donate to gift a wheelchair this holiday season! Alexander had a wheelchair that was very old and it recently completely broke apart. We were able to replace it with a brand new one thanks to your donations! He had an accident on “La Bestia”, the train that immigrants ride up from Mexico. That was 19 years ago. With three very young children to support, he was trying to get to the United States to look for work. The accident on the train cost him his right arm and leg. Help us provide more wheelchairs to those in need today!

Strollers, diapers, and therapy

One little boy suffered severe hypoxia at birth, leaving him with permanent disabilities. His story is sadly not unique. CHPH provides strollers so parents don’t have to carry their children everywhere, and cloth for reusable diapers for kids who will never be independent in caring for themselves. Sadly, there are many children who suffer from this affliction in the regions we serve.

This child is fortunate to live near the Nelly Santos Foundation, where he receives therapy to help with joint contractures. Many others do not have that chance.

From severe hip pain to walking again

Elena lived with severe hip pain and could barely walk without support. When we met her the first time, she told us she didn't want a walker or wheelchair because she wanted to continue to walk for "as long as she could". The next time we spoke, she asked for a walker. We were able to coordinate hip surgery with our partners, One World Surgery. Today, she is recovering well and receiving ongoing therapy with support from our local partners. Elena will soon be donating her walker to another patient in the community

A new wheelchair, a restored livelihood

Nineteen years ago, Alexander lost his right arm and right leg in a tragic accident on “La Bestia” while trying to reach the U.S. to support his three young children. Since then, he has raised his children and built a small business renting musical equipment for festivals.

When his only wheelchair broke apart, he suddenly had no way to move or work. CHPH purchased a new wheelchair and a community member delivered it to his village. A simple chair restored his mobility, independence, and hope.

Rigoberto – Step by step, getting stronger

Four-year-old Rigoberto was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder about 18 months ago. CHPH has been covering logistics for his testing and therapy, and recently sent him to the Social Security Hospital for vision testing. He will be getting glasses so he can see better.
