I actually observed the fabled Pileated Woodpecker at Riverview Nature Park 5:01 p.m. Halloween, 2026 - it was not the first time I had heard the bird's call, but never that close and never that loud.
Dr. Falk used to claim many sightings on walks through the turn of the century. If he ever experienced a sound and sight ambush like I did, he didn't alert the media.

Leroy and Carlito were visiting family in Nebraska City and looking for odd jobs today. They pulled grass from the park trails until the heat got the better of them. Thanks boys!

The revitalization of Riverview Nature Park is in full swing. This heat makes for thirsty trees. We are lucky to have acquired a battery powered water sprayer. Funding for this project is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, in
partnership with PlantNebraska and Friends of Riverview Nature Park. Thank you!
