Have you ever wondered what Book Bestie day is REALLY like? Here's a great takeaway from our BB Leader, Teresa Albers. This work matters!
It was a magical day! Here are a few things I witnessed today. A student from NCECBVI read to second graders from the braille book she had received this morning. IMPRESSIVE!!!
One class was outside playing "Leapfrog" after reading Silly Sally. I saw kids with props from "If You Give a Pig a Pancake," and I spied a class eating pancakes.
I saw a group of kindergarten students make paper dolls of themselves hanging upside down (Silly Sally). A second-grade class went to Australia(well touched it on the globe anyway). I heard a volunteer used "voices" reading "The Gingerbread Man" and the little ones giggled!
I noticed a volunteer reading with rabbit ears and another showing props to help explain the "big" words in "Peter Rabbit".
I saw students reading their books and writing about the book they had just heard. There were some farm activities at Head Start, and of course, there was a game of "Simon Says" and the teacher was the first one out!!!
Above all, I heard caring conversations, saw hugs and heard laughter. It's about more than the books - it's about the relationships! Together we are giving the students in Nebraska City an EDGE by showing up each month!
