A new federal law aimed at preserving affordable housing and expanding homeownership is now official. This is especially relevant for Nashville, a city that has been called the most intensely gentrifying in the country.
As our own Anton Jackson said recently to WKRN: "The solution to housing affordability is going to be multifaceted."
Legislation is one piece of that, and so is community-based home preservation work. RTN is proud to be doing our part, and we are hopeful that tools at every level, federal, city, and neighborhood, keep moving in the same direction.
You can read more about the new federal law here:

An overview of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act released March 2, 2026, combining House and Senate housing legislation and outlining new provisions affecting institutional investors, federal housing programs, and other bipartisan reforms.

A safe home is only part of the equation.
That's why RTN partners with Second Harvest Food Bank to bring a mobile food pantry to our Bordeaux neighbors each month. And with Vanderbilt University nursing faculty to host wellness clinics that bring blood pressure checks, medication reviews, and mental health counseling directly to our clients' doors.
Because the families we serve deserve more than a repaired roof. They deserve the full picture of support that lets them thrive. We're grateful to our partners who help make that possible.

Keith Benion has lived in Bordeaux for nearly 40 years. He calls himself the "Mayor of Downtown Bordeaux," and he spends his days trying to make sure the neighborhood's history doesn't get lost in Nashville's rush toward what's next. RTN has been embedded in Bordeaux for years for the same reason. The families here have built something worth protecting.

On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act became law, a milestone for accessibility and independence nationwide.
At RTN, we carry that work forward every day. Our accessibility modifications, ramps, railings, widened doorways, give homeowners the freedom to stay in the homes they love, on their own terms. Happy ADA anniversary, and thank you to everyone advocating for a more accessible Nashville.

A home is often the single largest asset a family will ever own.
For the homeowners RTN serves, many of them older adults living on fixed incomes, protecting that asset means something simple: keeping the roof solid, the wiring safe, and the structure sound.
When we repair a home, we're not just fixing a house. We're protecting a family's legacy.

Thank you so much to our wonderful friends at Workwear Outfitters for helping us continue to make our work home a warm space for us to welcome and serve the Nashville homeowners. We're so grateful for all of Workwear Outfitters volunteers' hard work last week helping construct new garden beds in front of our office and assemble home maintenance kits full of items that will help our homeowners stay safe and healthy in their homes. We're so grateful to have friends like you, Workwear Outfitters!

Nashville summers get hot, and for older adults on fixed incomes, a broken AC unit is more than an inconvenience; it’s a health risk.
A few things to watch for as temperatures climb: ✅ Check on older adult neighbors during heat waves ✅ Make sure window units and HVAC systems are working properly ✅ Watch for signs of heat exhaustion, especially in homes without reliable cooling.

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. At RTN, we know that a safe home and a sound mind are connected. That's why our Vanderbilt-led wellness clinics include mental health counseling alongside blood pressure checks and medication reviews, meeting homeowners where they are, in the place they feel safest.
