For most families, a home is the single largest source of wealth they will ever build. But that wealth has never been shared equally.
New research from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition on the racial wealth divide shows that Black households tend to depend far more heavily on home equity than their White peers. So when a home is lost, not only does the place to live disappear, but so does a family’s primary inheritance, often built over decades.
That hits close to home for us. Eighty eight percent of the homeowners Rebuilding Together Nashville serves are Black or African American. Many of them are older adults in neighborhoods their families have lived in for generations. When we repair a roof, update faulty wiring, or make a home safe and accessible, we’re helping a family protect generational wealth.

June is National Homeownership Month, and at RTN, we celebrate it a little differently. 🏡
Most of the homeownership conversation is about buying, but we focus on staying. For the longtime homeowners we serve, many of whom are older adults living on fixed incomes, the biggest threat is being unable to afford the critical home repairs that keep them safely in the home they already own. These can include a leaky roof, faulty electrical wiring, or a broken HVAC system. These problems may seem small, but they can quietly become issues that force homeowners to make hard choices about leaving their homes.
This month, we honor what it means to keep a home, and our neighbors who are working hard to hold onto theirs.

Today’s the day! 🎉

We’re gathering at Riverside Revival this morning for Rebuilding Together Nashville’s 2026 Community Brunch, featuring keynote speaker and former Mayor Bill Purcell.

Whether you’re with us in person or supporting from afar, thank you for believing in a Nashville where residents can stay safely in the homes they’ve loved for decades. Home preservation is affordable housing, and today, we get to celebrate that work together. Stay tuned for photos!

A huge thank you to our friends at Turner Construction Company for finishing out our spring Build Day season with a bang! Over 20 Turner volunteers came out to two homes in our Dickerson Pike Target Community last Thursday to help us keep more of our neighbors safe and healthy in their homes. We had a blast serving our Nashville homeowners with you Turner Construction!

Thank you so much Elliott Davis for another great build day serving our Nashville neighbors!

Because of sponsored build days like these, RTN can stretch our funding to help even more Nashvillians stay safe and healthy in their homes for years to come.

We're so grateful to have wonderful partners like Elliott Davis to help us continue repairing homes, revitalizing communities, and rebuilding lives.

Nashville can't build its way out of the affordable housing crisis fast enough.

But for every dollar it costs to build one new home, RTN can repair up to 12.

This keeps families in the homes they already own, in the neighborhoods they've always called home. Learn more about our community focused approach at rtnashville.org.
