We are so grateful to for featuring The Goldfinch Foundation this month, and thankful to our intern for writing a piece that captures our 3 pillar community events. 💛

We are also excited as Heather Kralj () begins her 350 mile run which she is dedicating to Owen.

Read both articles in full in the June 2026 release.

Summer isn’t usually crunch time, but for the kids starting college essays, prepping for the ACT, or trying to actually read the summer book, this one matters🙌.

The most disciplined people on the planet aren’t grinding through willpower. They’re rearranging their environment so the right thing is easy and the wrong thing is annoying. Start with the phone.

Inspired by Dr. Robert Brooks’ latest piece on the 20-Second Rule, drawing on the work of Shawn Achor & Angela Duckworth.

How full is your TANK? 🔋🪫Link in bio
As the Mental Health Awareness Month 🎗️ is coming to a close we invite you to check in with yourself. 💪
We designed the TANK Quiz - a quick self assessment tool based on the TANK framework that helps you identify the areas you're thriving in and the areas that need some more attention.

It only takes a few minutes - the insights might surprise you. It also gives a quick "recipe" to improve the area that's falling behind and some research insights at the end.

Try it out - follow the link in our bio or reach it at www.thegff.org/tank-quiz

Meet Heather💛

This June, she’s running 350+ miles for The Goldfinch Foundation.

The Last Annual Heart of the South Road Race. Ten days on foot. 350 miles+ back to the starting line, carrying only what she can take with her. It is one of the hardest road races in the country, and she’s doing it for Owen.

In her own words:
“My son went to the same school as Owen when they were in grade school, and his dad helped me with a foot injury years ago. I went back to grad school at 45 to become a therapist because mental health means so much to me. I usually run one race a year for charity. This year I chose The Goldfinch Foundation.”

She didn’t have to do any of this. She picked one race. She picked us.

The race begins June 11. June 16 is the anniversary of Owen’s passing. Heather will be somewhere out on that road that day, doing what runners do, which is just keep going.

If you’d like to be part of her miles, donate at givebutter.com/goldfinch-found-1. There’s a box you can check to dedicate your gift to Heather’s run, so every dollar she inspires comes back to us with her name on it.

You are not alone. You’ve heard it before. We mean it.

The numbers in these slides come straight from the CDC’s 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey. 40% of US high schoolers report persistent sadness or hopelessness. 1 in 5 seriously considered su***de last year. Nearly 1 in 10 attempted.

For boys, the numbers look quieter on paper. They aren’t. Boys report less. Boys die more. Nearly 4 times as often as girls. The silence is not strength.

The data isn’t abstract. It’s the kid two desks over. The teammate. The friend you haven’t checked on. It might be you.

“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places.”

Thank you to for the reminder during his UNC commencement speech last week.

Resilience is not pretending life is easy.
It is learning how to stay connected through the difficult seasons.

Through family.
Through creativity.
Through community.
Through purpose.

These are the things that help keep us in tune when life gets hard.

At The Goldfinch Foundation, we believe people heal in connection — and that many become stronger, wiser, and more compassionate through the challenges they face.

Because darkness is not the end of the story.

Grateful to the team at Lockton for the opportunity to speak at the Lockton Grit & Grace event in Houston last week.

We often celebrate grit in leadership and performance—discipline, resilience, perseverance. What is discussed far less is the role of grace: the ability to pause, reconnect, ask for help, create boundaries, and make time for the habits and relationships that sustain us long term.

One of the biggest challenges today is not lack of awareness, but lack of implementation.

Thankful for the chance to share the work of The Goldfinch Foundation and discuss practical ways we can better support mental wellness, connection, and sustainable performance in our communities and workplaces.
