What do you learn when you walk with a school instead of passing through?

For two years, our Uganda team has walked alongside Flolity Nursery and Primary School. This week they sat down with the head teacher and staff, not to deliver answers, but to keep asking questions. Is the water still safe? What have teachers noticed? What do students remember? What does the school need to keep this going on its own?

As we close out our time with Flority, we are still asking. Because access to water is the beginning. Making it safe, sustainable and locally managed is the journey.

Last night, TAP had the opportunity to join the Nashville Predators for their home opener, courtesy of the Nashville Predators Foundation, and we are incredibly grateful for the continued support of this community.

This relationship means a great deal to TAP. Support from the Predators Foundation helps strengthen our Vanderbilt SHIRE Summer Internship, creating paid opportunities for juniors and seniors in Nashville to gain hands-on experience in research, engineering, lab work, media and more.

And there is another chance to support TAP coming up soon.

On Tuesday, November 3, the Nashville Predators take on the Carolina Hurricanes at Bridgestone Arena for Smashville Games for Good. When tickets are purchased through TAP’s link, a portion of each ticket directly supports our work.

To everyone who has shown up, purchased a ticket, shared our work or continued to believe in what TAP is building, thank you. These partnerships help create opportunities for young people here in Nashville while supporting the larger mission of sustainable water access.

This past weekend, our Uganda team joined communities across the country in recognition of Uganda’s National Cleaning Day.

For TAP, clean water and healthy communities are closely connected. Safe water access also depends on sanitation, hygiene, environmental care and the shared responsibility of protecting the spaces where people live, learn and gather.

Participating in National Cleaning Day is one more way our team can work alongside the communities we are part of, not just through water quality testing and WASH programming, but through action that supports healthier environments for everyone.

Small actions, taken together, can create lasting change.

The Ayin Project is heading to Bridgestone Arena for Smashville Games For Good!

Join us Tuesday, November 3 as the Nashville Predators take on the Carolina Hurricanes.

What happens when the challenge you lived as a child becomes the work you choose to change?

For Peace Kekirunga, the connection is deeply personal.

Growing up in Uganda, collecting water meant walking to an open, hand-dug well shared with cattle. At school, when thirst took over, yam leaves became makeshift cups for drinking from an open water source.

Today, Peace is helping change that reality.

As part of The Ayin Project team in Uganda, she brings her background in biotechnology and research to her work as a Water Laboratory Technician at the Water Research and Development Center.

Her journey is a powerful reminder of why locally led knowledge matters. The people closest to the challenges are also researchers, scientists, leaders and problem-solvers helping build solutions that can last.

Our laboratory continues to expand its capacity to support organizations, schools, communities and institutions through water quality testing and consulting.

We are proud to be an integral part of this work, helping provide the local data, expertise and insight needed to better understand water quality and inform meaningful next steps.

Images like this are a reminder that access alone is not enough. Water must also be safe to reach, safe to collect and safe to use.

The work is not complete until everyone has access to safely managed water.

It’s official. 🇺🇬

We are now registered in Uganda as "TAP Initiative Uganda Ltd."

This is an important step forward for The Ayin Project and for the work our Uganda team is building locally.

Our registration strengthens our ability to work directly within Uganda and creates new opportunities to expand water quality testing, education and support for schools, communities, businesses and industries.

More than a legal milestone, it gives us a stronger foundation to grow local partnerships, make the expertise of our Uganda team available to more people, and continue building solutions that can be locally led and locally owned.

This has always been at the heart of our work: building capacity that lasts.

More capacity. More opportunity. More room for locally led change.

Today, our team in Uganda joined communities across the country in recognizing National Cleaning Day.

At the heart of WASH is something bigger than clean water, sanitation and hygiene. It’s community ownership.

When people come together to care for the places where they live, work and learn, they become active participants in creating healthier environments and lasting change.

We’re proud to see our Ugandan team participating alongside their community today, putting the principles behind our WASH efforts into action.

Because sustainable change isn’t something done for a community. It’s something built within it.

This summer, we asked our Research 1 Interns:

“How has this experience shaped your thinking about water, sustainability, or global impact?”

For many, the answer came from seeing the work in a much more personal way.

Our interns had the opportunity to connect with members of The Ayin Project’s Uganda team, hear their stories, learn about the challenges communities are facing, and see real data being collected through water testing and fieldwork.

That experience helped connect the research happening in Nashville to the people, communities, and real-world challenges behind the data.

It also gave our interns a clearer understanding of how their own skills, curiosity, and research can contribute to meaningful, sustainable change.

We are incredibly grateful to Vanderbilt CSEO, Metro Nashville Public Schools, and POWER Youth for helping make the TAP-SHIRE Summer Internship possible and for creating opportunities for our interns to learn, connect, and see their potential for impact.
