Our Story

MyCanvas is a collaboration between Lutheran Services in Tennessee, Heal with Heart, LLC, and many volunteers throughout the community. The program offers basic art skills and music lessons to at-risk youth in efforts to support identity development, healthy coping skills, and community resiliency through artistic creation and expression. We currently have two locations where art sessions take place during School breaks, one in the cheatham area of north Nashville and the other in Haywood Land area south Nashville. Our north Nashville site also provides weekly music lessons. With the guidance of a Board Certified Art Therapist, LeeAnn Love, MyCanvas creates a space for children affected by generational poverty and other obstacles that create limited access to resources to develop a radical sense of self-worth, tools for healthy emotional expression, and the freedom of curiosity and exploration in order to live into the reality of their dreams instead of their circumstances. We currently receive support from Metro Arts and the William N. Rollins Fund for the Arts of the Community Foundation. We hope to continue to grow our program and give more children and teens the therapeutic benefits of access to art.
