Sometimes, a few words from someone we've helped remind us exactly why we do what we do.

This message came from a pet owner who shared that while they could manage the everyday costs of caring for their pets, the expense of spay/neuter surgery was beyond their budget.

And they're not alone. For many loving pet owners, the cost of veterinary care can be a real barrier, even when they're doing everything they can to provide a wonderful home.

That's why Napa Humane works to make essential preventive services affordable and accessible to our community.

Because preventing suffering shouldn't depend on someone's ability to pay full price for care.

Small hands, big hearts! ๐Ÿงก

A big thank you to Ms. Tabiolo and her students at Napa Christian Campus of Education for thinking of Napa Humane during their September community service project!

The students got creative making dog treats and handmade pet beds and blankets to donate to Napa Humane. Ms. Tabiolo shared that the project was a wonderful opportunity for her young students to practice tying knots, and they had a great time making the treats, too!

We love seeing young people discover the joy of helping animals and making a difference in their community.

Thank you, Ms. Tabiolo and students, for your kindness, creativity, and thoughtful gifts! ๐Ÿพ

Created by Napa Humane and DogTrekker in memory of DogTrekkerโ€™s beloved Director of Barketing, Maya, this new award celebrates dogs who have a special way of making their corner of the world a little brighter.

And Elsa couldnโ€™t be a more fitting first recipient.

Adopted from the Napa County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center at just eight months old, Elsa is now part of a certified animal-assisted therapy team with her person, Michele. Together, they visit nursing homes, schools, programs serving adults with disabilities and moreโ€”bringing comfort, joy and connection wherever they go.

In selecting Elsa for the inaugural Maya Award, DogTrekkerโ€™s Roxanne and Dave Kendrick shared:

And as Michele puts it, Elsaโ€™s gift is beautifully simple:

At home, this Great Pyrenees keeps watch over her own unconventional flock of two cats, two rabbits and four chickens. And on walks? Elsa is pretty sure everyone she encounters has come specifically to see her.

Thatโ€™s the spirit behind The Maya Award: ๐๐จ๐ ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐งโ€™๐ญ ๐ก๐š๐ฏ๐ž ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐จ ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐จ๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฆ๐š๐ค๐ž ๐š๐ง ๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ๐ซ๐š๐จ๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐š๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž.
