💜 A new chapter is beginning. 💜

After months of preparation, hard work, and so much support from our community, the Sarah Leslie Foundation is getting ready to open the doors of the Sarah Leslie House in November.

This home has been a dream for a long time, and it’s hard to put into words what it means to see it becoming a reality. Soon, it will be a place where survivors of domestic violence and their children can feel safe, take a breath, and begin building their next chapter.

We are beginning to accept referrals for families who may benefit from our transitional housing program. If you or someone you know is looking for support, or if you’re an organization that would like to learn more about referring a family, please reach out to us at [email protected].

You are not alone.

This mission is deeply personal to us. Sarah Leslie Foundation honors Sarah and Leslie, whose lives were taken by domestic violence. Their memory inspires our work to help survivors and their children build safer futures.

💜 Hope Lives Here.

Imagine walking through a door and finally being able to take a breath. A place where you and your children can rest, feel supported, and begin looking toward the future.

That is the vision behind Sarah Leslie Foundation.

As we prepare our Napa home to welcome survivors of domestic violence and their children, we’re creating space for healing, practical support, and the small steps that build lasting independence.

A new beginning may mean returning to school, finding work, rebuilding confidence, or simply having time to settle in before deciding what comes next. Every family’s path will be their own.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, our campaign moves from “Behind the Mask” to “Hope Lives Here”—sharing what support after abuse can look like and how our community can be part of it.

💜 Behind the Mask: Support starts with what we say.

When someone shares that they are experiencing abuse, you don’t have to have every answer. You can begin with three simple statements:

“I believe you.”
“You deserve to feel safe.”
“How can I support you?”

Give them room to speak without asking them to prove what happened. Listen with care, respect their choices, and let them tell you what support would be helpful.

Your kindness can remind someone that they matter—and that they don’t have to face everything alone.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sarah Leslie Foundation invites you to save and share these words. They may help you be there for someone when they need you most.

💜 Behind the Mask: “How can I support you?”

“Why didn’t they leave?” is a question many survivors hear. But from the outside, we may not see the fear, financial barriers, concern for children, or uncertainty about where to go.

Someone should never have to defend their circumstances to deserve compassion.

We can begin with:
“I believe you.”
“You don’t deserve this.”
“How can I support you?”

Listen without judgment. Respect their choices. Keep showing up with care, even when their next step looks different from what you expected.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sarah Leslie Foundation invites our community to make room for understanding. A caring conversation can help someone feel less alone.

It may sound like:
“You don’t need to see your friends.”
“Give me your paycheck.”
“You’re not allowed to work.”
“I need to know where you are at all times.”

When demands are enforced through fear, threats, or punishment, everyday choices can become another person’s way of taking away your independence.

Domestic violence doesn’t always leave visible signs. It can involve isolation, financial control, and a pattern of making someone afraid to make their own decisions.

You deserve safety, respect, and choice. You do not have to wait for physical harm to deserve support.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Sarah Leslie Foundation invites you to help bring these hidden experiences into the conversation. Share this post to help someone recognize the signs—and know they’re not alone.

💜 Behind the Mask: Domestic violence doesn’t always leave visible signs.

A smile, a busy workday, or a seemingly happy family photo may tell only part of someone’s story. Abuse can include emotional harm, isolation, financial control, and fear—experiences others may never see.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. At Sarah Leslie Foundation, we’re beginning our “Behind the Mask” campaign to encourage understanding, compassion, and support for survivors and their children.

Throughout the month, we’ll share ways to recognize abuse, support someone without judgment, and help build a future where safety, dignity, and independence are possible.

To anyone experiencing abuse: you deserve to be believed, supported, and safe. You do not have to share your story to deserve help.

💜 THANK YOU, NAPA VALLEY! 💜

What an incredible day for the Sarah Leslie Foundation.

Our Open House was an opportunity to finally welcome our community into the home, share our mission, introduce our programs, and show what we are building for survivors of domestic violence and their children here in Napa County.

We are incredibly grateful to Napa County Supervisor Liz Alessio and Congressman Mike Thompson’s office for joining us and taking the time to learn more about our mission and the work ahead.

We were also honored to welcome representatives and friends from NEWS, Monarch Family Justice Center, and other community organizations and partners whose work and collaboration will be so important as we prepare to serve families.

A special thank you to our Sarah Leslie Foundation Board — Jen, Bill, and Allison — for your continued leadership, dedication, generosity, and belief in this mission.

And to every volunteer, donor, supporter, friend, family member, and community member who helped prepare the home, contributed goods or services, supported the Open House, or simply came to learn more: thank you.
