Yesterday, Always Home's Tricia Cunningham was one of 25 "Influential Women" recognized by Scouting America Connecticut Rivers Council for her role as a trailblazer, leader, mentor, and community advocate across Connecticut. Also known by the Scouts as "Our Shining Stars", Tricia was thrilled to join other honorees from Southeastern Connecticut including Susette Tibus, CEO of the Mystic Aquarium, Jessica Britagna of Light the Way – Boating Safety Connecticut, and Kathy Jacques of Waterford Country School.

In her remarks, Tricia thanked the team at Dime Bank for nominating her. Celebrating with her were Always Home Board members Crystal Sides of Dime Bank and Pantea Umrysz of East Coast Pro Painting, Always Home supporter Jonathan Duncklee of Duncklee Cooling & Heating Inc, and Always Home Heart to Heart Gala Committee member Nevien Nematalla of Dime Bank.

Yesterday, Tricia attended the Connecticut Housing Conference: From Vision to Homes. It was an inspiring day spent with fellow nonprofits, state policymakers, regional and local leaders, developers, and others from the private sector, all focused on the future of housing in Connecticut.

Always Home is excited to welcome two new members to its volunteer Board of Directors: Margarida Martins-Querido, a Connecticut and Rhode Island realtor with Century 21 Shutters & Sails and a committed volunteer and community leader; and Mark Gold, a retired attorney who practiced for more than 50 years in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, advising businesses and nonprofit organizations on governance, strategic planning, and organizational challenges.

"Both Margarida and Mark bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and community engagement to Always Home," said Tricia Cunningham, Always Home’s Executive Director. "Both the Board and I look forward to their contributing to the future growth and ongoing stability of our organization."

Tricia and the Board of Directors also thanked departing Board member Reverend Dr. Lonnie Brown for his eight years of dedicated service. As Senior Minister of Union Baptist Church, Lonnie continued the legacy of stewardship started by our founder, Reverend Dr. Kenneth Carpenter. “Lonnie has been a valued Board member and friend. He has guided us in understanding and honoring our organization's history, while also helping us prepare for what lies ahead. It has been my honor to work alongside him."

Always Home was at yesterday's discussion of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. Our communities need housing opportunities that are affordable for low-wage workers. With the right funding, collaboration, and commitment, this legislation presents a pathway to achieving that goal.

Congressman Joe Courtney met with housing advocates, builders and realtors Tuesday for a comprehensive discussion on the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act — Congress's bipartisan solution to the national housing crisis.
