Prevent-Heal-Thrive has the same mission statement as The Dempsey Center founded by the actor Patrick Dempsey in his home state of Maine.

Patrick Dempsey's mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. He watched what the years around a diagnosis actually look like - not the treatment, which hospitals handle, but everything else. The exhaustion. The paperwork. The family falling apart around the edges.

So in 2008 he opened the Dempsey Center in Maine. Counselling, support, therapies, help for caregivers. All of it free, to anyone affected by cancer, including the family members who are not the patient.

It holds a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, which is the unromantic way of saying the money goes where he says it goes.

He is from Lewiston, Maine. He built it there rather than in Los Angeles, where it would have been much easier to get photographed.

Another wonderful MICHELE BASSETT SOCCER JAMBOREE at Saint Bernard School was held yesterday. We had Perkins Farm dahlia bouquets once again with donations going to Prevent-Heal-Thrive . Maya was there to represent the next generation.
