Youth Orchestra: Grades 8–12
String Ensemble: Grades 4-8 A Unique Opportunity for Young Musicians! The Eastern Connecticut Symphony Youth Orchestra is a special program! We provide young musicians the opportunity to perform challenging, high quality compositions in a variety of styles. We strive to inspire our members to reach beyond the musical exp
eriences offered in school programs. Our members are encouraged to learn not just the notes of the score, but also about the composer, the history of his era, the meaning behind the music. ECSYO works closely with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony of New London, CT. Our students are given the opportunity to share the stage with the Symphony musicians, and receive behind the scenes experiences. Our members also receive complimentary tickets to an ECSO performance! Currently, we offer two programs. Our Youth Orchestra brings musicians from local school orchestra and band programs together into a traditional orchestra format. Typically students are currently in grades 8-12, and have played their instrument for 3-5 years. Rehearsals are held on Mondays from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Norwich Free Academy (NFA) in Norwich, CT. We also offer a Strings Ensemble group for grades 4-8. Rehearsals are held on Mondays from 6:30pm- 8:00pm. We meet at Northeast Academy Elementary School in Mystic, CT. Our programs typically hold 2-3 concerts each year. Occasionally, members will also be given the opportunity to make additional performances throughout eastern Connecticut.
