This Christmas week, we're thinking about the communities around the world who are working to restore the landscapes they call home.

From the coastal villages in Kenya where Eden's implementation partner, Compassionate Carbon, works alongside 47 communities to restore critical habitat, to the mountain communities in Nepal where Eden supported watershed restoration for nine years, to the neighborhoods surrounding Tegucigalpa where local families now manage fire prevention systems that protect their water sources—restoration work happens because communities choose to invest their time and energy in the places where they live.

Eden's role is to connect donors with these efforts. We look for implementation partners who understand that restoration succeeds when communities lead it, when outside support provides patient capital for long-term thinking, and when partnerships multiply impact across landscapes and generations.

Over the past two months, thoughtful donors have joined Eden's sustaining members community because they value this strategic approach to philanthropy. They understand that their monthly contributions enable partnerships rather than fund our operations.

If you've been considering joining a community that connects donors with proven restoration expertise around the world, this is your opportunity to be part of Eden's approach to strategic grant-making.

Wherever you are this Christmas, we hope you're surrounded by healthy communities and thriving landscapes.

We'd love for you to join us! https://eden-plus.pulse.ly/c7vio6cgyi

December is when many people think seriously about their giving for the year. If you've been following Eden's work, you know we're not like most restoration organizations.

Our approach emerged from 20 years of learning what works in landscape restoration. The most successful efforts are led by communities who understand their own landscapes, supported by organizations with deep local expertise, and funded by patient capital that enables long-term thinking.

We identify implementation partners who are doing excellent restoration work and connect them with donors who understand that healthy communities and healthy land go together. Every new monthly donation strengthens our ability to support organizations like Compassionate Carbon doing restoration work that lasts for generations.

December is decision time - when people choose what matters to them and where they want their money to make a difference. We need more people who want to contribute monthly to support proven restoration work worldwide.

This Thanksgiving, we're grateful for partnerships that create lasting change.

We’re grateful for organizations like Compassionate Carbon doing restoration work with integrity, expertise, and genuine commitment to the communities they serve.

We're grateful for communities worldwide who welcome partnership, share their knowledge about their own landscapes, and lead restoration efforts in their home places. From Kenya's hillsides to Honduras's watersheds, from Nepal's mountains to Madagascar's coasts, communities are the true experts in caring for the land they know best.

We’re grateful for our sustaining members who have joined our community - people who understand that reliable monthly support creates more lasting impact.

Most of all, we’re grateful for the growing understanding that healthy communities and healthy land go together. That restoration isn't something we do TO places, but something we support communities in doing FOR themselves.

When we support each other - when donors support organizations, when organizations support communities, when communities support landscapes - we create change that benefits everyone for generations.

Thank you to everyone who makes these partnerships possible!

Why does Eden focus on monthly membership instead of one-time donations?

Restoration doesn't happen in a month, or even a year. It takes decades of sustained commitment to build the relationships, develop the community trust, implement the techniques, and create the systemic changes that last for generations.

When our partner organizations can count on reliable monthly support from Eden's sustaining members, they can make the long-term commitments that real restoration requires:

🌱They can promise communities that they'll be partners for 10, 20, even 40 years - not just until the current grant runs out.

🌱They can build deep trust through consistent presence instead of showing up, completing a project, and disappearing.

🌱They can plan restoration work that spans the decades needed for forests to mature, watersheds to stabilize, and communities to develop sustainable enterprises.

🌱They can focus their energy on results and relationships instead of constantly chasing new funding sources to stay operational.

One-time donations help, but monthly membership creates the foundation for transformation that lasts generations.

Your sustaining membership joins with others to create the reliable support that real restoration requires and enables organizations to think in decades, not just fiscal years.

Join our community building long-term partnerships for lasting change.

How do we choose which organizations to support?

Eden uses the Four Returns Framework to evaluate every potential partner.

Return of Inspiration: Restoration work succeeds when communities can imagine the landscape they're working toward. Does the organization help communities envision their future? Do they build hope, confidence, and long-term vision?

Social Returns: Real restoration must benefit the people doing the work. Are jobs created and incomes secured? Does the work strengthen community organizations and promote gender equity?

Natural Returns: The environmental outcomes must be measurable and significant. Is ecosystem restoration happening at meaningful scale? Are soil health, water security, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration improving?

Financial Returns: Projects must eventually support themselves beyond initial funding. Do sustainable business opportunities emerge? Can communities and organizations become economically resilient over time?

We don't just fund good intentions - we support proven organizations that deliver measurable outcomes across all four areas. When you become a sustaining member, you're investing in rigorously evaluated partnerships that create lasting change.

Organizations like Compassionate Carbon demonstrate strength across all four returns, which is why we're proud to support their community-led restoration work in Kenya.

Great news coverage for our Rubeho Mountains project:

Reuters just featured Tanzania's Rubeho Mountains in their story about protecting Africa's biodiversity - and it's our project!

Eden's Rubeho Mountains Carbon Project is one of just four projects selected for CAPE (Carbon Accelerator Programme for the Environment) from over 100 applications across Africa.

The article explains how innovative finance models can make conservation economically sustainable. Our 40-year commitment in Tanzania aims to protect over 260,000 hectares of critical forest while creating livelihoods for 90,000+ community members.

This is exactly the community-centered, landscape-scale approach that drives our work - and why partnerships like CAPE are so important for multiplying impact.

Help us continue to make these kinds of projects possible: https://give.eden-plus.org/

Here's how your $50 creates 40 years of forest protection:

🌱 Years 1-2: Project Development Your gift funds community partnerships, permits, and initial restoration work. Think of it as planting the economic seeds.

🌳 Years 3-5: Carbon Credits Begin Restored forests start generating verified carbon credits. Your initial gift is now creating its own revenue.

💰 Years 6-40: Self-Sustaining Impact Carbon credit sales fund all ongoing protection, community employment, and expansion. Your $50 has become thousands of dollars in conservation funding.

🌍 The Result: Permanent protection without needing more donations.

This is what makes Eden different. Instead of asking you to give forever, we make your gift work forever.

The Rubeho Mountains project in Tanzania shows this in action:
- 394,000 hectares under restoration
- 92,458 community members benefiting
- Carbon credits funding the next 40 years

Traditional charity creates dependence. Blended finance creates independence.

Your $50 doesn't just protect forest today—it builds the economic system that protects forest forever.

Ever wonder how your gift creates lasting impact?

Here's the math that changes everything:

🌳 Your $50 gift → Supports the design and launch of a restoration project

🏛️ New projects receive commercial investment that ensures long-term viability

📈 Year 3-5: Carbon credits begin generating revenue that effectively multiplies your gift

💰 Years 5-40: Your $50 creates $2,000+ in ongoing conservation funding

🌍 Result: 40 years of forest protection from one gift

This is blended finance in action. Your donation doesn't just plant trees—it builds economic systems that sustain forests for decades.

The Rubeho Mountains project in Tanzania demonstrates this multiplication effect. Community partnerships + carbon markets + your catalytic support = permanent conservation.

Traditional charity asks for donations forever. Eden's approach makes your gift work forever.

Ready to create transformational impact? Invest in Eden's expanding portfolio of carbon-eligible projects. Your support doesn't fund just one project—it powers a diversified approach to landscape restoration that multiplies impact across targeted ecosystems worldwide.

"How do we know blended finance actually works?"

Great question! Let us share some real examples:

🌊 Blue Alliance Marine Protected Areas: $65 million protecting 2 million hectares of ocean. Corporate investors, foundations, and impact investors worked together to create 10-year collaborative management agreements. The result? Sustainable income from responsible ecotourism and fisheries that funds ongoing protection.

🌲 Forest Resilience Bonds: What used to take 10-12 years of fundraising now happens in 3-4 years. Private investors fund forest restoration upfront, then get repaid by the water utilities and government agencies who benefit from reduced wildfire risk and improved water quality.

🌱 Livelihoods Carbon Fund: €260 million from companies like Danone and Michelin has benefited 2.8 million people while capturing 26 million tons of CO2. Companies get carbon credits instead of financial returns, and communities get 20+ years of stable income.

The pattern is clear: when you combine philanthropic support with market mechanisms, conservation projects become self-sustaining instead of donor-dependent.

That's exactly what we're doing in Tanzania's Rubeho Mountains. Your gift helps us develop the project, then carbon credit sales fund 40+ years of restoration and community support.

It's not theory—it's proven practice that's worked for millions of people and millions of hectares worldwide.
