Happy International Day of Charity!

CRPS Warriors Foundation is a 501c3, 100% volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to the care and wellbeing of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) patients, aka CRPS Warriors, and their families through research, education, and awareness.

Currently, we're hoping to hold a CRPS convention in the future where CRPS Warriors can meet and connect with our various Professional Resources, including doctors, therapists, holistic care providers, and more; volunteers of the foundation; and other CRPS Warriors.

You can help support this project by making a direct financial donation to our fundraiser at givebutter.com/cwf-2026 or an item donation to the online silent auction we're hosting this fall, where proceeds from the auction will also support our CRPS Convention fundraiser.

For details on how to donate to our online silent auction, please visit the Events page on our website at crpswarriorsfoundation.org/events/

If you are unable to make a financial or item donation, you can help in another way by spreading the word about our foundation and its fundraisers or by voting for us weekly on MyGivingCircle to increase our chances of winning a grant at mygivingcircle.org/crps-warriors-foundation/vote

Stanford Medicine recently conducted an opioid tapering program on people who have taken opioids long-term and “developed physiological dependence to the medications — and experience withdrawal symptoms when the medication is reduced — but do not meet other criteria for addiction.”

Clinicians worked with participants to create a personalized tapering plan with the goal of achieving the lowest comfortable opioid dose over 12 months. Doses are reduced no more than 10% per month, and the pace of the taper can be controlled and paused when needed.

After 12 months, about half of those with chronic pain achieved a successful response, defined as cutting their opioid dose by at least 50% without increased pain or staying at the same dose with significantly less pain. Cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain seemed to lessen opioid withdrawal symptoms and the tapering plan is done in collaboration between the clinicians and patients.

Pros:
Patient-centered care and decision-making

Cons:
Risk of withdrawals and addiction or dependency
Tapering too fast and opioid cut offs may lead to mental distress and suicidal risks

It’s important to taper carefully and check-in with the clinicians and care team to ensure proper tapering. Please speak with a clinician first to learn more about opioids and the tapering process.
