🎤 SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: Tracy Meier

We’re excited to welcome Tracy Meier, Chief Program & Education Officer at the National Ability Center (NAC), to Sports Without Borders: Sports Diplomacy Symposium!

With more than 24 years in adaptive recreation, Tracy has dedicated her career to advocacy, empowerment, and inclusion, helping people of all abilities experience the lifelong benefits of recreation. She is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, certified therapeutic riding instructor, and Level 3 adaptive ski instructor.

Tracy has also helped expand adaptive sports internationally, developing an exchange training program with instructors in South Korea to build an adaptive ski program. Her work demonstrates how sports can break down barriers, foster understanding, and connect people across cultures.

Join us on Friday, October 23, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the World Trade Center Utah to hear from Tracy and our panel of experts about the power of sports diplomacy as Utah prepares for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games!

How can sports create moments of hope, build community, and open doors for people across cultures?

We’re excited to welcome Adam Miles, founder of Bridges To America, Inc., the organization behind Refugee Soccer and , as a featured panelist at Utah Global Diplomacy’s upcoming Sports Without Borders: The Diplomacy of Sport symposium!

After nearly 20 years on Wall Street as a financial advisor, Adam shifted his focus toward building opportunities for refugees and young women through sports and community engagement. Through Refugee Soccer, he works to create moments of connection and belonging for refugees, while supports young women in recognizing and maximizing their potential.

His work reflects a powerful idea: small efforts can make a meaningful difference in people's lives.

How can sports create opportunities for diplomacy, cultural exchange, and international connection?

We’re pleased to welcome Michael Deaver, of Strategies 360 and Honorary Consul of Indonesia to Utah, as the moderator for Utah Global Diplomacy’s upcoming Sports Without Borders: The Diplomacy of Sport symposium.

Mike brings extensive experience in sports, entertainment, and events marketing. Previously, he served as Vice President of Development and Events for the Utah Sports Commission, helping secure, promote, and produce major sporting events. He has also served as Utah’s Deputy Director of Tourism, Executive Director of the Governor’s Special Initiatives Office, and Athletic Marketing Director at Brigham Young University.

With his background in sports leadership, public affairs, and international engagement, Mike will guide our panelists in exploring how sports can build relationships across cultures, strengthen communities, and foster international understanding.

🌎 Bringing the World to the Dinner Table!

Last weekend, Utah Global Diplomacy’s Dinner Hosting Program brought BYU international students together with a local host family for an evening of cultural exchange, shared experiences, and new connections.

We love hearing how these gatherings help students feel at home in Utah while giving hosts and guests the opportunity to learn from one another and experience different cultures firsthand. Thank you to our wonderful host family for their warm hospitality and to the students who joined us and shared a little piece of their world!

These moments remind us that diplomacy can begin with something as simple as sharing a meal. ❤️

SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: TRAVIS J. MURPHY

Sports can do more than bring people together on the field. They can build international relationships, shape policy, and create opportunities for diplomacy across borders.

We’re excited to welcome Travis J. Murphy, Founder and CEO of Jetr Global Sports + Entertainment, as a featured panelist at Utah Global Diplomacy’s upcoming Sports Without Borders: The Diplomacy of Sport symposium. Travis will be joining us virtually from the Washington, D.C. area!

A former NBA executive and U.S. diplomat, Travis brings extensive experience at the intersection of sports, international affairs, and diplomacy. He spent more than a decade with the NBA as Head of International Government Affairs and previously served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer, including in the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy Division.

Travis will bring a unique perspective to our discussion on how sports can strengthen international relationships and serve as a tool for diplomacy, especially as Utah prepares to welcome the world for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

We’re excited to welcome Eileen May-West, Program Director at Wasatch Adaptive Sports, as a featured panelist at Utah Global Diplomacy’s upcoming Sports Without Borders: The Diplomacy of Sport symposium!

For more than 15 years, Eileen has worked with individuals of all ages and abilities to expand access to recreation for people with disabilities and their families. At Wasatch Adaptive Sports, she oversees program development and operations for a year-round organization dedicated to adaptive recreation.

Eileen brings an important perspective to our conversation about inclusion, accessibility, and the power of sports to connect people across different experiences and abilities, especially as Utah prepares to host the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
