☀️Fund Friday☀️

For generations, the Coyne family has been committed to making a difference in the Mt. Pleasant community.

Through the Coyne Family Fund, Dave and Linda Coyne continue that tradition of giving back. The family established a donor-advised fund at the Community Foundation to support the efforts of nonprofit organizations in Isabella County.

Recently, the Coyne Family Fund was utilized to cover some costs associated with sending the Mt. Pleasant High School’s Rockefeller Robotics Team 8837 to the World’s competition.

Thank you, Coyne Family, for investing in our community! Linda Coyne also serves on our Board of Trustees, Grant Review Committee, and Women's Initiative. We are grateful for her leadership!

Help us welcome Gretchen Furst, our summer intern at the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation!

Gretchen studies Integrative Public Relations at Central Michigan University, double minoring in Leadership and Multimedia Design, and will begin her junior year at Central Michigan University in the fall. We're excited for the fresh perspective and dedication she brings as she supports the work at the Community Foundation.

What a special evening as scholarship recipients, donors, families, mentors, fund representatives, board and committee members, and friends came together to celebrate MPACF's 2026 Scholarship recipients.

This year, out of more than 2,500 applications, 109 students were selected to receive scholarships totaling $227,025.

A night like this takes a village. We are especially grateful to our 173 volunteer scholarship reviewers who dedicated countless hours to reading applications and helping select this year’s recipients.

And a special thank you to our board member and photographer, Dan Gaken, for capturing so many memorable moments throughout the celebration.

Congratulations to all of our scholarship recipients, and thank you to the donors whose generosity continues to open doors and create opportunities for students across Isabella County.

What a wonderful way to close out scholarship season!

Meet Miika Prout, a senior at Mt. Pleasant High School, who has been on the YAC for five years. Miika has been a mentor to many new members during her time on YAC and has also enjoyed trying different committees to gain new experiences. One of her favorite YAC memories is attending the Summer Leadership Conference with her fellow YACers and growing her leadership skills in the process. After graduation, Miika plans to stay on the YAC as a senior member while studying biomedical, cellular, and molecular sciences at Central Michigan University.

When asked if she had a message to share with future YAC’ers, she shared this: “Don’t be afraid to try new things and get out of your comfort zone”.

Congrats Miika!

Yesterday, the MPACF team volunteered with Special Olympics Michigan Summer Games. We loved helping out and cheering on the athletes, and we wish all athletes the very best in their competitions this weekend.

The Community Foundation is home to the Special Olympics Michigan Fund, established in 2010 by Robert Long to support the important work of Special Olympics Michigan and its athletes across the state.

Meet Alivia Kirchofer, a senior at Shepherd High School, who has been on the YAC for six years. Alivia has recently held one of our Vice President positions, but has also been a mentor to many of our new YAC’ers, as well as being a part of many different committees. One of her favorite memories has been attending the summer leadership conference each summer and contributing to bettering the YAC. After graduation, she plans to attend Madonna University to study Forensic Science.

When asked if she had a parting message for current and future YAC’ers, she shared this, “Don’t be scared to try new things, take on responsibilities, and have fun because you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone”.

We’ll miss you, Alivia!

Meet Ben Gottschalk, a senior at Beal City High School, who has been on the YAC for six years. During that time, he held the position of Treasurer for two years and led our YAC through our finances at each meeting, as well as serving on a variety of different committees. One of his favorite memories from his time on YAC was attending the Summer Leadership Conference the summer before his freshman year. After graduation, he plans on studying Nuclear Engineering at the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering.

When asked what parting message he would like to share with current and future YACers, he said this: “Don’t be afraid to run for an exec position while you’re young! You’re not on your own, and you’ll understand the committee a lot better!”

We’ll miss you, Ben!
