“Safety and health aren’t just parts of my job, they’re the reason I do what I do.”

Those words from CMU College of Education and Human Services CMU Department of Recreation, Parks & Leisure Services Administration alumna Amber Simms capture the commitment behind her work with the National Park Service. Her dedication to protecting employees and visitors has earned her the agency’s Director’s Award for Safety and Health Achievement.

Read Amber’s story and learn how her Central Michigan University experience helped shape her career. ❤️💛

We loved catching up with Curt and Michelle Carson ’81 when they returned to campus for Homecoming! The couple met at a Sigma Pi fraternity house party in 1978 and tied the knot six years later.

Curt was proud to share with us that 45 years ago, he helped Sigma Pi win the Greek Week spirit trophy and was even featured in the 1981 Chippewa Yearbook, taking a pie to the face after a shopping-cart relay victory. So we searched the Clarke Historical Library online archive and found the photo! 🤣 🍰
