A huge thank you to everyone who made the 2026 CWC Fall Fundraiser a success! Stay tuned for a full recap next week. Until then, we would like to express our gratitude to our event sponsors! Thanks to the Little Flower Barn, ITC Holdings, the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, Bandit Industries, and Meijer for supporting the event. We were also very fortunate to have many individuals in our community who also chose to sponsor the Fall Fundraiser. Because of everyone’s generosity, we can continue to protect more natural spaces in Central Michigan for everyone to enjoy!

We had a great time last night at our annual Fall Fundraiser! We'll share some photos in a few days.

One of the highlights of the evening was announcing the recipient of the Bob Ball Award. This award is given annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the CWC’s purpose of protecting natural habitat and open space.

This year's awardee is Steve Pung. Steve is one of only four individuals to have served as President of the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy. Since joining the CWC Board in 2015, Steve has served as either President or Vice-President for all but three years.

Steve was unable to join us at the Fundraiser so we presented the award to him a few days ago and this is what he had to say about the honor:

"I’m truly honored to join the prestigious group of past recipients of the Bob Ball President’s Award.

When I look through the names of those who have received this award before me, I’m reminded of the many years of dedicated service and commitment that so many individuals have given to the CWC and to its important mission of protecting Central Michigan’s land, water, and wildlife resources.

To be included among such a distinguished group is a meaningful honor, and one that I sincerely appreciate.

Thank you."

Steve joins 35 other individuals who have received the award since 1995. Congratulations, Steve!

Thursday, again! That means you can find us at the Mt. Pleasant Farmers' Market. There’s lots of fall produce including apples, squash, root vegetables, herbs, and more. Plus honey, fresh fish, nuts, cheese, baked goods, etc. I personally picked up some Calville Blanc d’Hiver apples - an heirloom French variety dating back to the 1500s! A big win for an apple nerd.

We won’t be at the market next week because we’ll be recovering from our Fall Fundraiser (Wednesday, October 7th). Speaking of the Fall Fundraiser! You can get raffle tickets and register to attend today at the farmers market.

We’re taking next Thursday off due to other commitments so the next work session will be on October 8th at 5:30pm - we’ll share the details in our “Events” in the next few days.
