It’s been 28 years since Scotland has made it to the World Cup… so this is a huge deal!

The romance of Jane (Mount Dora) & Brian (Scotland) is the stuff of fairy tales and legends, and we were honored to celebrate with them at their handfasting this weekend!

A boat transported guests from South Queensferry (Edinburgh) to Inchcolm Island: the stunning setting of a 14th century Abbey ruin.

The sun came out, warming us even as wind whipped across the water… carrying off fascinators, the groom’s speech notes, and the celebratory strains of the bagpipe.

The traditional ceremony itself was full of meaning and ancient tradition (and we were so caught up in the magic of the moment that you’ll have to wait for the happy couple’s photos to see that).

The reception that followed was a party like only the Scots know how to throw:
Feasting, music, dancing, and sunset views over the sea made this storybook celebration utterly unforgettable!

just missing the therapeutic (aka very cold) temperatures.

We arrived in Forres just in time for a lovely Meet & Greet with Forresians interested in connecting with the Sister City!

We were beautifully hosted in the Tolbooth by and George of the Forres Heritage Trust.

laid out a delicious spread of nibbles including their own buffalo halloumi, sausage rolls, and much more.

We sipped delightful sparkling beverages under Morgan’s Mount Dora tapestry,
made a whole bunch of fun new connections,
and dreamed together about possibilities for upcoming visits & projects!

Forres (like Mount Dora) is a beautiful town, full of absolutely wonderful people, and there is a mutual feeling of anticipation and excitement over the rekindling of our longstanding connection!

Several decades in, and we’re just getting started!

Fourteen fantastic applications…
(and we genuinely wanted to send every last one of the applicants)!

Our committee had the difficult job of narrowing it down to 4 finalists. We then passed those project ideas on to Forres to tell us who we should send over first.

This [first] year’s scholarship winner is highly deserving:

a well-loved Mount Dora resident, with loads of experience bringing people together in support of local business, art, and community.

We are absolutely confident that our little town will be well-represented, and that the twinning connection will be strengthened by this cross-pond connector!

Make sure you’re following so that you don’t miss any of this super-fun “ambassadorial” journey!
