Our special guest speaker this week was Lisa Wojo (Wojciechowski) of Taylor Morrison Homes. Lisa spoke to our membership about the new Lochside Development, located northwest of the County Country Club of Mount Dora and east of the Publix Shopping Center. The development represents a new lakeside community, featuring 150 single-family residences. They have 15 floor plans to choose from, accommodating up to 4,181 square feet under roof, 6 bedrooms, 5½ bathrooms, and even a 3-car garage.

It was an honor to recognize two of our local high school graduates, Clara Lahey and William Schmitz, at last Wednesday’s meeting, as they were among the many scholarship recipients who received $1,500 from our Club’s Foundation toward their planned educational endeavors. These seniors have consistently demonstrated the character values of integrity, hard work, concern for others, and successful academic achievement during their high school years. Our membership wishes them the best of luck in the next chapter of their lives and thanks all our members, event sponsors, and donors for their generous support in making these scholarships possible.

Our 32nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament for Children, held on March 20th, was a great success, raising enough money to help us continue supporting our local community and the children and students we have the privilege of serving. Our continued support from community business partners and many individuals made for an incredible tournament day. Past President and our Club’s Key Club Advisor, Greg Vogl, presented Key Club President, Brooklyn Powhida, and two of our graduating Key Club seniors, Brooke Mansfield and Carson Roden, with a check for $500 to support the charity efforts for the next school year to the Eustis High School Key Club.

Eustis High School decided, as part of this year's graduation ceremony, to increase the number of top-qualifying students from around 5% to 20% of those students, who would be provided with a special stole to indicate their outstanding academic performance. This change increased the cost by nearly $1,000 and asked the community to help with the additional cost. President Chris Vogl presented a $250 check to Brooke Mansfield and Carson Roden from our Key Club, in the hope that our donation would help the school cover the additional cost.

As the end of the 2025-26 school year quickly approaches, it provides our Club with a unique opportunity to celebrate our graduating seniors from our sponsored Eustis High School Key Club. The Eustis Key Club represents one of our many Service Leadership Programs (SLPs) that we host to help our children and youth develop leadership, character, and a sense of civic responsibility. Past President and our Club’s Key Club Advisor, Greg Vogl, presented Brooke Mansfield and Carson Roden with their Kiwanis graduation stoles and Club Pins. Unfortunately, Brooklynn Mason, Jordiance Roberts, Samantha Myers, and Adrianna Covino were unable to attend the meeting due to testing conflicts or illness that morning. We want to congratulate all our graduating Key Club members and all the Key Clubbers who made the program such a success this year.

It was a pleasure to have Joyce Walters, Friendraiser & Donor Relations Coordinator, from New Vision for Independence, join us on Wednesday morning as our guest speaker. Their non-profit’s goal is to eliminate barriers to independence for people with vision loss. Joyce provided a personal heart-wrenching story of her son’s journey of vision loss and the triumphant overcoming of his disability, to preparing to graduate from the University of Central Florida. Our Club continues to support their “Sensational Egg Hunt” by purchasing specially designed eggs that emit beeping sounds, making them easier to locate. For more information on how you can support their admirable efforts, visit: https://newvisionfl.org/
