It was an exciting evening at Texas Roadhouse for our Dine to Donate event. The restaurant donated 10% of its food sales this evening with the support of everyone who had previously been provided with a Fundraising Night Coupon. They also let us set up our display table at their entrance, which allowed us to inform the community about all we do for the children, youth, young adults, and families we serve. We thank Texas Roadhouse, our Club Members, their guests, and the community for supporting our Foundation. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed by those who matter.

If you ever wanted to donate to a local organization to help the children, youth, and families of our community just by eating an incredible meal, here is your chance. Texas Roadhouse in Mount Dora on US Hwy 441 is donating 10% of all food purchases from next Monday, August 31st, from 3 to 10 pm to our Club’s Foundation. We were twelve strong on our return visit to LovExtension in Tavares on Thursday. Once again, we had the opportunity to load customized grocery bags filled with food and personal items for seniors in need. Each household can highlight items of interest based on their preferences and dietary needs, and each bag is filled with their specific needs in mind. LovExtension’s mission is to improve the quality of life for seniors and disabled adults in Lake County and The Villages whose family care is not what it should be by supporting their emotional, nutritional, and social needs. It was a rewarding afternoon, and our Club hopes each bag will reach recipients with the love and joy we intended to share from everyone's efforts.

From time to time, we have the opportunity to recognize new members of our Club with a simple ceremony as a ritual of welcome, integration, and shared commitment that we all have to serve others in our community. New members are the lifeblood of any civic organization, and as Kiwanians, we are no different. These new members bring fresh energy, new ideas, new businesses, new community contacts, and a renewed commitment and support for our causes.

President Chris Vogl had the opportunity to recognize five new members: Kris Alston, Marie Aliberti, Jeff Stephan, Paul Alston, and John Bernaden. We are grateful for their commitment to the children and families we serve, and we look forward to their participation in our service projects and fundraising activities in the coming years. As our Kiwanis year is quickly coming to a close, it means many things. The election of new administrative leaders, preparing the Club to discuss its service goals and activities for the coming year, budget discussions, and a heartfelt reflection on the incredible strides we made during the previous year for the children and families of our community.

In most civic organizations, officers typically serve for a single one-year term, but a few don’t hesitate to step to the plate and continue their efforts in support of the organization. Last Wednesday morning, we had the honor of recognizing Andy Key and Pat Land for their "above-and-beyond" service to our Club as Club Secretary and Club Treasurer, respectively, for more than ten years.

President Chris Vogl presented each of them with a simple token of our appreciation. At the same time, members celebrated their incredible dedication, commitment, and excellence in their respective positions over the years, and how they inspired others to accept the baton for the coming year. Thank you, Andy and Pat, for your distinguished service to the Club and the community we serve. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed.

Club member Marie Aliberti was instrumental in getting last week's guest, Kelly Hadley, a Board Member for the Eustis Community Alliance. They are a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization focused on connecting local residents to available resources and services by partnering with community groups across our area. They offer high-quality programs, including academic support for children and adults, computer literacy training, information and referrals, and structured activities to engage residents and help them achieve self-sufficiency. ❤️ Giving Back & Preserving Our History! ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing Golden Triangle Kiwanis volunteers—Andy, Kris, Paul, Rachel, Marie, John, Greg, Jason, and Chris—for giving their time and energy and working alongside the Legacy Preservation and Education Group to help clean up a historic cemetery.

Our team worked together to hand-clear vegetation, remove debris, and carry everything to the dumpster. It was hard work, but they did it with smiles, teamwork, and a true spirit of service.

What makes this event so special is that they weren’t just cleaning up a cemetery—they were helping preserve an important piece of our community’s history for future generations.

We are so proud of each of you for showing up, rolling up your sleeves, and making a difference. Thank you for representing Golden Triangle Kiwanis and for always being willing to serve wherever you are needed. Your dedication to our community truly matters! 💙

📚🍎 Getting Ready for a Great School Year! 🍎📚

The first day of school is just around the corner, and the Golden Triangle Kiwanis was excited to be part of the back-to-school excitement at Eustis Heights Elementary!

We were proud to support the school by making a donation to help provide breakfast for the teachers as they prepare for another school year. We also had the pleasure of meeting the new principal, Dr. Vanessa King, and Caleb Pierre, one of the new assistant principals. We are looking forward to building a wonderful partnership with the new administration!

We were also excited to participate in the Meet the Teacher event, where students had the opportunity to meet their teachers and enjoy some fun back-to-school activities. And, of course, the Golden Triangle Kiwanis even got to meet Spider-Man! 🕷️🕸️ What a cool event!

A special thank-you to Eustis Heights Elementary for including us. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet parents, teachers, and students and share some of the programs Golden Triangle Kiwanis provides at the school, including Terrific Kids, Rachel’s Christmas Boxes, and our third-grade dictionary program.

And a huge thank-you to Tad, Joe, and Chris for representing Golden Triangle Kiwanis and helping make this event a success!

At last week’s meeting, our special guest was none other than School Board District 5 Member Dr. Stephanie Luke. Dr. Luke spoke on several issues related to schools/education in Lake County while specifically highlighting the upcoming 1-millage increase on the property tax proposal for voters on the November ballot. This ballot issue is anticipated to raise roughly $9 million a year to boost teacher salaries, help recruit and retain staff, fund school safety requirements, and expand mental health services for students. This proposed effort is designed to replace the current 0.75‑mill voter‑approved levy, which has been in place since 2019 and was renewed in 2022. Her talk sparked lots of interest among the membership, receiving many comments and questions.
