🎉 Happy Birthday, Dina! 🎉

We were lucky enough to meet Dina during the pandemic, and little did we know that when she asked us to host her 40th birthday party, it would open the door to a whole new chapter for Joy in Motion! ❤️

If you know Dina, you know she is one of the kindest, most compassionate, and most genuine humans around. It didn’t take long for us to realize she belonged on our team, sharing her passion for movement, fitness, and wellness through Pilates.

Her love for dance and fitness shines so brightly, and we are so grateful that both she and her daughter are part of the Joy in Motion family. ✨

Today, we celebrate YOU, Dina! We hope your day is filled with love, laughter, joy, and everything your heart desires (and then some!). Thank you for sharing your energy, positivity, and beautiful spirit with all of us.

🎓 Senior Shoutout: Kayla Strand ✨

Kayla has been dancing since she was 3 years old and has been part of the Joy in Motion family since Fall 2018. Over the years, she has become such an important part of our community through her leadership, kindness, dedication, and love for younger dancers. ❤️

Kayla has also been part of our TA Program since it first began four years ago, helping shape and support so many younger dancers along the way. 🫶 This past year, she served as our Lead TA, and her impact on both students and staff has been truly incredible.

This fall, Kayla will be attending UCSB to study Biochemistry! 🧬🎉

“My favorite thing about Joy in Motion is the TA program. I’ve learned so much and met so many incredible kids who I’m really going to miss! My favorite memories are always sneaking backstage to watch dances with my friends and TA kids, and I love the feeling of community at shows and rehearsals.” 🫶

“Joy in Motion made me really love dance again and I’m so grateful to have been a part of such a fun and loving program.” ✨

Together with the Board of Directors and JiM Co-founders, we are also incredibly proud to announce Kayla as the recipient of the very first JiM Senior Impact Award… a $1,000 scholarship grant recognizing her years of dedication, leadership, and impact within our community. 👏❤️

🎓 Senior Shoutout: Phoebe Wood ✨

“Joy in Motion has given me the space to be myself and grow as a dancer and a person.” 💛

Phoebe joined Joy in Motion during the summer of 2023 after signing up for just two classes… but by the end of the summer, she had added many more and completely fell in love with dance at JiM!

She says the incredible staff and the lifelong friendships she’s made have meant so much to her journey. One of her favorite memories is the excitement right before stepping on stage during the Spring Show season.

“The feeling is unlike any other, and the traditions and craziness that happen backstage are always the best!” ✨

This year, Phoebe also spent her first and only season as a TA and absolutely loved working with the next generation of dancers. Watching her lead with kindness, encouragement, and joy has been so special.

In the fall, Phoebe will be attending Saint Mary’s College of California where she plans to study Dance Science…which means she won’t be too far away, and we definitely hope to see her back at the studio! ❤️

We are so proud of you, Phoebe, and can’t wait to see all the amazing things ahead for you. 💫

Today we celebrate rhythm, freedom, community, and the people who inspire us to keep moving forward. We’re grateful for the joy that dance brings into our lives and especially thankful for the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country.

So today, we honor with gratitude… and maybe a few extra shuffle-ball-changes too. ❤️🤍💙

Since joining Joy in Motion in 2019, Talia has brought kindness, positivity, dedication, and heart into every space she’s danced in. From performing on stage to spending the last three years as a TA, she has truly left her mark on our JiM family. We are so proud of the dancer and person she has become and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes next at UC Berkeley! 💙💛

“My favorite memories are backstage during shows and all the good vibes with everyone just enjoying each other’s company and hyping each other up. Joy in Motion has helped me grow as a dancer and a person, giving me skills I plan to take with me throughout the rest of my life. I have also loved being a TA the past three years!! 🎓 Senior Shoutout: Mena Dorsey ✨

Mena grew up dancing competitively in both Colorado and Walnut Creek before finding Joy in Motion through the cheerleading dance team taught by Taylor. That experience became her gateway into JiM, where she jumped right into Advanced Jazz, Contemporary, and Teen Hip-Hop Crew her Senior year. 🔥

Even though Mena was only with us for one year, she was immediately welcomed into the Joy in Motion family, and we are so grateful she found her way to us. ❤️

“My favorite memory from Joy in Motion is meeting amazing people and getting to perform at the end of the year showcase. I also loved getting to take part in Crew.” ✨

This fall, Mena will be attending the University of San Diego and we know she has such an exciting future ahead of her! 🎉

🎓 Senior Shoutout: Grace Guthrie ✨

Grace has been dancing at Joy in Motion since 2018, and we are so grateful she has been such a special part of our community over the years. ❤️

“One of my favorite memories from my time at Joy in Motion was getting the privilege to tap dance in the opening and closing numbers of each show!” 👏✨

Grace has been part of Teen Crew with Taylor since 2021 and says she’ll never forget their first performance in the iconic tracksuits. She’s loved “dancing and growing alongside the girls” and has also spent the last 3 years as a TA, creating memories with younger dancers that she’ll cherish forever. 🫶

Next year, Grace will be attending UC Berkeley in the College of Letters and Sciences! 🎉🐻

We wrapped up our Winter/Spring Session yesterday and WOW… what a season! 💥

10 fabulous shows, hundreds of incredible dancers, countless memories, and so much JOY on stage. We are still soaking it all in and feeling beyond proud of our community. 💛

BUT… there’s no slowing down over here 👀

Our first of TWO 26/27 Hip Hop Crew Auditions kicks off next week, and Summer Session starts June 1! ☀️🔥

Milana’s earliest Joy in Motion memory is watching “Joy in Motion” being painted in the yellow room 🩷

Her favorite part of dancing at JiM has been making friends of all kinds and getting to perform in the opener for the very first time! 👏

🎓Senior Shout Out: Erin Garrity ✨

Since joining Joy in Motion in 2018, Erin has been such a bright light in our studio family, and watching her grow over the years, from timid dancer to an encouraging TA, has been incredibly special. 💙

“One of my earliest memories of dancing at Joy in Motion is being so nervous to come into my first hip hop class and Justin Cole telling me there was nothing to be nervous about and I’m gonna have the time of my life.

My favorite part of Joy in Motion was dancing in Teen Crew with Taylor and all the girls! We bonded as a group and pushed each other to dance our best.

Joy in Motion is was always a positive space that made the studio feel like a second home. Joy in Motion has truly changed my life and helped me grow, not just as a dancer but in my confidence and who I am as a person.”

Erin’s journey is exactly what Joy in Motion is all about. We love hearing that one simple moment of encouragement turned into years of unforgettable memories, growth, and we could not be prouder of the hardworking, kind, confident young woman she has become.

This fall, Erin will attend ✨San Diego State University✨ to study Sociology with a minor in Public Health… and we know she is going to do amazing things!

Erin, thank you for sharing your heart, your talent, and your joy with us these past several years. Watching you grow into who you are today has been an absolute gift. Once a JIM dancer, always family. ❤️
