The Clifford Baptist Church will mark the 200th anniversary of its building construction with a public celebration on Sunday, June 14.

It is the oldest known structure still standing in this northeastern Pennsylvania township. The congregation was co-founded by the great-grandfather of President Warren G. Harding.

Today, USDA Secretary Rollins approved a disaster designation for Pennsylvania after the spring freeze impacted local farmers. I recently joined members of the Pennsylvania Congressional delegation in urging Secretary Rollins to approve this designation to ensure affected producers have access to the relief they need to recover.

This designation allows USDA to provide emergency loans to producers recovering from natural disasters. These loans can help replace essential equipment or livestock, reorganize operations, or refinance certain debts.

Producers in Columbia, Luzerne, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties are eligible for this assistance and have until Jan. 26, 2027, to apply.

The Susquehanna Symphony Society held its Annual Scholarship Showcase on Sunday, May 17, hosted by St. Paul’s Church in Montrose. Seven talented graduating seniors participated, showcasing their musical talents on instruments including the trombone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, marimba, and clarinet, along with one solo vocalist who performed Love Among the Daffodils.

This year, two funds at the Community Foundation proudly supported these outstanding students. The Overture Fund and the C. Robert Orner Music Memorial Fund each awarded scholarships for the very first time. Each participating student was awarded a scholarship in recognition of their musical talent and achievement.

Congratulations to all of this year’s scholarship recipients for sharing their incredible talents and dedication to music!

🎶 A Desk with Rock & Roll History 🎶

Take a look at our historic Scranton Record Company Desk — donated by the Quackenbush and Bertsch Families (2004) and located in the Community Foundation President’s Office on the second floor.

This desk once belonged to Stephen VanPelt Quackenbush, Sr., president of the Scranton Record Company, which later became part of Capitol Records.

Here’s the really fun part… 🎵
In the 1960s, many albums by The Beatles were manufactured at the Scranton facility — meaning this desk has a direct connection to music history! 🎸✨

Now it’s time for a little guessing game… 👀
Guess who sits at this desk today?

We love celebrating the stories behind the unique pieces throughout our Foundation — especially ones with a little Beatles history attached. 💙

✨ A Desk with a Story ✨

Meet our historic Three-Sided Desk — generously donated by the DoVell Family (2021) and now proudly located in the Community Foundation Reception Area on the second floor.

Originally used as a reception desk for executive offices in the iconic JPMorgan Chase Building, this piece has traveled from the heart of New York City to become part of our Foundation’s story.

And now for the fun part… 👀
Guess who sits at this desk today?

👇 Drop your guesses in the comments!

We love the history and character this desk brings to our space — and we’re grateful for the stories behind the special pieces throughout our Foundation. 💙
