Edward L Rose Conservancy

Edward L Rose Conservancy The Edward L. Rose Conservancy is a not-for-profit land trust dedicated to protecting natural resources through land and water conservation. We are here to help!

Our Story Begins . . . . . in 1809 when Dr. Robert Rose purchased 100,000 acres that later become a large part of Susquehanna County. Over the years much of this land passed out of family holdings, but was substantially reclaimed by a descendent, Edward L. Rose, committed to maintaining the rural character of the area. In 1987, 375 acres in Silver Lake Township were sold to a group of citizens p

ledged to continue his tradition of concern for land protection. Rose Conservancy was formed to protect land, preserve natural habitat and increase public awareness through education, research and outreach programs. We are a nationally accredited land trust working in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania and the Southern Tier of New York. Contact us to discuss your goals for protecting your property and let us help you to protect cherished land and open space for the benefit of current and future generations.

Spring brings new life and hope. This nature video from the High Point Preserve and Silver Lake brings clips of the transition to Spring in the physical environment and in the behaviors of local wildlife.
The winter ice does not leave the lake suddenly. There are changes to colors and movements with the wind. What you might see as a cold and lifeless ice sheet, has movement and energy.
The star of this video is a local bald eagle, who caught a large bullhead fish and decided to have lunch next to a trail camera on a fallen tree.
Recently a bright, caring young person, on seeing the eagle, said "That's my Grandpa watching for us".
We celebrate the 100th birthday of David Attenborough; his words on connection speak with wisdom.

🌎✨ Happy Earth Day! ✨🌿

Quick fun fact: some of the coolest places on Earth are conservancy lands—areas protected by people who basically said, “Hmm… maybe let’s keep this forest instead of turning it into a parking lot.” 😄

These lands help protect wildlife, plants, and all the behind-the-scenes nature magic that keeps our planet running. Think of it as Earth’s way of putting up a “Please do not disturb” sign 🌳🦋

So on Earth Day and everyday, give nature a little love—plant something, pick up trash, donate, or just enjoy the outdoors.

Special thanks to Rebecca Caudrillier, a life long supporter, for this post and for reminding us that everyday is Earth Day.

The transition from Fall to Winter in 2025 happened quickly. This nature video captures the change in energy with the formation of first ice on Silver Lake.
The High Point Preserve, under the stewardship of the Edward L Rose Land Conservancy, is home to a variety of animals that also transition to get ready for winter.
In this video we observe porcupine, fox, deer, coyote, bobcat, ermine and some water fowl migrating.

Feedback on the hike at Greenwood Sanctuary

Early this month, there was an open house and hike at the Greenwood Sanctuary in Dimick PA that is under the stewardship of the Edward L Rose Conservancy.
On Saturday October 11, 2025, an open house was held at the Greenwood Sanctuary in Dimock, PA.
A hi-light of the day was the hike and tour of the trails through the forest and fields.
Jim Kessler led the enthusiastic group beyond the traditional 3-dimensional hike along and up and down the trails.
Jim also translated the story of the forest with knowledgeable and insightful observations which included the passage of time and changes in the history of the forest
that gave an additional dimension of Time to the in-depth discussion of the trees, land use and local history.
