The Human Needs Food Pantry provides food, clothing and other services in Montclair and most of Essex County. Donations are tax-deductible.

Client services: Tuesday and Thursday 12:30-3pm
Atención al cliente: Martes y Jueves de 12:30 a 15:00 horas. We are a non-profit, privately-funded food pantry providing food and other services since 1982. Our diverse client base includes families and individuals who are elderly, disabled, home-bound, unemployed, or underemployed. Client registration and food distribution: Tuesday & Thursday 1230-3pm

👏 👏👏 For this effort! Stephanie Akhter and Umair Akhter, their children Naveen and Rami and Montclair neighbors ages 1.5-5 years old assembled over 300 toiletry kits for our clients! Not only are they adorable, they have wonderful parents who are teaching them the value of at such a young age. We thank them on behalf of our clients who often request soap, shampoo, toothpaste and other basic essentials. It’s our mission to support Human Needs and we thank these neighbors for joining our efforts.

Many area residents likely recognize Arlene Antunes Carrini from her stores in Montclair. Arlene’s mom recently passed away and on top of that, her businesses One Savvy Design Luxury Consignment Montclair NJ and Nouvelle Boutique were destroyed in a fire just over one week ago.

She has often taken the the time to give back to her community and this week, was no different. She donated a carload of housewares, clothing, adult diapers and more.

You never know what someone is going through whether it’s a neighbor, a store clerk, the mail carrier, the shopper on line next to you, and, in our case, add in a client or a donor. A kind word, a small gesture, a smile.

This is how neighbors support each other. ❤️

When the box of Mac & Cheese is bigger than the giver, well, we know that’s one generous and strong little guy! This father-son duo from Glen Ridge came by during our Saturday donation day and delivered shelf-stable nourishment. Thanks to all who stopped by and donated.
We are open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8a-noon and the second Saturday of every month from 10a-noon for donations. (more info in our profile and on our website.)July 11 is our next Saturday weekend donation day.

👋 Hello Neighbors! We met these smiling faces at our last weekend donation day and TOMORROW this could be you! We are accepting donations from 10am-noon Saturday and are particularly in need of:

🍏 Shelf-stable food (canned proteins like beans, tuna and chicken, pasta, cereal, rice, etc.)

👕Men’s summer clothing - shorts, jeans, shirts & shoes

🧫🛌Dishes, pots & pans, sheet sets & towels

👗Women’s summer clothing (size 12/14)

🩳Children’s summer clothing (size 2t - 7)

🚸📘🖍️We know teachers don’t often get the recognition they deserve, but what about retired teachers? Look at this amazing donation from the Teachers Club of Montclair, a group of retired teachers. Donna Karanja delivered around 50 kits containing journals designed for younger grades. So thoughtful and so creative and perfect for summer creativity. 📝

Another wonderful delivery today from the Benson Street Community Garden! They are a locally supported community garden founded and maintained to grow fresh, healthy organic produce to benefit those in need in our community. The Garden is maintained by volunteers and annual harvests have totaled more than 700 pounds of fresh vegetables grown, harvested and delivered to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.

They grow tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, butternut and other squash varieties, cucumbers, green beans, varieties of kale, swiss and rainbow chard, beets and radishes – all grown primarily from seed in 19 raised garden beds.

They are open on Tuesdays in season from 9 to 11 am and they welcome volunteers interested in learning about
the Garden, planting, and harvesting a variety of vegetables.

Deliveries are made by volunteers following our Tuesday morning harvesting to the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.

Mark your calendar- this Saturday we are open for donations from 10am-noon. We always need shelf-stable food, diapers, pots and pans and seasonal clothing. We particularly need casual men’s clothing and shoes. See you Saturday!

🏡 Michelle Retik and Samantha Gabrielle from collected diapers, wipes, toiletries and shelf-stable foods (pasta, tuna, soups, etc.) at their office and dropped off a carload full of essentials. (1st/2nd pic)

👩‍🍳 Lisa Miller, a design specialist Williams Sonoma in Upper Montclair, has delivered new sauté pans and soaps, and hopes to continue donating the store’s “discards” to us. (3rd pic)

Help Us Inspire Young Readers This Summer!

We are collecting new and gently used children’s books for our Summer Reading Giveaway at the food pantry.

We’re looking for books that are:

In excellent condition
Current and appealing to today’s young readers
Appropriate for infants, children, and teens
Free of writing, torn pages, stains, or significant wear
Our goal is to ensure that every child who visits the pantry can choose a book to enjoy over the summer and build a lifelong love of reading.

Most needed: Popular picture books, early readers, chapter books, graphic novels, and young adult titles.

Please help us stock our giveaway with books that children will be excited to read and keep.

Doesn’t get any better than this!! The Pre-K from Shomrei Emunah Preschool is back with another fantastic delivery! We are thrilled when the youngest among us display their big hearts and generous spirit. They brought a huge wagon full of food, school supplies, feminine products and more. 🧡💙❤️💚🤍
