BREAKING: ALL BEAGLES ARE FREE!! RIDGLAN IS CLOSING!

Center for a Humane Economy officially announced this morning what I repeatedly posted here--RIDGLAN IS CLOSED AND THE DOGS WILL BE FREE!!

Soon the rest of the dogs will go to rescues based on a negotiated final deal by Big Dog Ranch Rescue that also paid an extraordinary additional amount of money for the release of the last hundreds of dogs.

As Big Dog Ranch Rescue said repeatedly, they would not give up, and Wayne Pacelle said they entered the negotiations in February, 2026 and paid with Big Dog Ranch Rescue for the release of the first 1,500 beagles as they believed Ridglan was over.

In the last year Ridglan's veterinarian had his license suspended on an emergency basis after 311 animal abuse violations at the facility were found by a judge in court proceedings. A criminal prosecution led to Ridglan agreeing to release its state breeding license, and a few weeks ago Congressman Mark Pocan announced the USDA warned Ridglan to shut down its federal breeding too.

It was a prefect storm of the people, organizations, legal proceedings and rescues nationwide coming together and ending Ridglan, and bringing awareness to cruel animal lab testing!!

And lets not forget the VETERINARIANS such as Crystal Heath who were on site each time the Beagles were released to provide medical attention.

Thank you to everyone involved and I for one have drafted laws against animal testing at the request of my legislator in NYC as well as I am meeting a NY congress member today regarding animal testing laws.

Stay tuned!

As many people know, we are currently in a massive cat overpopulation crisis. Ensuring your cat is spayed or neutered is not only beneficial for the reasons listed above, but it is truly the only way to prevent the overpopulation from worsening. In recent years, the amount of cats entering the nationโ€™s shelters has increased and as a result euthanasia rates have risen.

New Jersey alone is estimated to have 1.3 to 2 million stray or feral cats, which is in addition to owned cats. Despite many people believing that there are adoptive homes for all of the many cats in shelters, and unborn kittens, NJ is ranked third lowest in the nation for cat ownership. So please whether owned cat, or if you are involved in TNR, donโ€™t hesitate to contact me to schedule an appointment.

TNR Package: spay or neuter, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, antibiotic injection, pain medication injection & ear tip - $128

Owned Cat Package: spay or neuter, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, FIV/FeLV combo test, microchip, antibiotic injection & pain medication injection - $200

UNEXPECTED EMERGENCY VET EXPENSE

This week our rescue incurred and unexpected emergency medical expense after being alerted to a critically ill cat in need of emergency care.

Shadow, a 5 years old female was diagnosed with pyometra- a severe and life threatening infection that required urgent surgery. Thankfully, the treatment was performed in time and she is now recovering well.

Cases like Shadow's are reminders that emergencies can happen without warning, and please a significant strain on our rescue.

If you would like to help support out ongoing medical fund so we can continue helping cats in crisis, donations are always appreciated. There is a link below or you can donate via our website www.pawsmontclair.org or checks can be mailed to
PAWS Montclair, PO BOX 1907, Montclair, NJ 07042

We are incredibly grateful for the veterinary team at Sheltering Vets at Twin Oaks and to Dr. Houston at Cameron Animal Hospital who quickly stepped in to help Shadow and made sure she received the urgent care she needed without delay.

Thank you for being part of our community and for caring about animals in need!
